Head coach Mike Shanahan, QB Donovan McNabb, RB depth,
TE’s (Chris Cooley, Fred Davis), CB depth, pass defense,
OLB Brian Orakpo, ILB London Fletcher,
linebacker core, DL Albert Haynesworth (when motivated to play),
CD DeAngelo Hall, kickoff coverage, punt coverage.
Weaknesses:
Rushing offense, offensive line depth, WR core, punt returns.
Opportunities:
Acquisition of QB Donovan McNabb could improve the passing game.
Offensive switch to zone blocking scheme could improve
the ground game.
New defensive coordinator Jim Haslett switch to 3-4 could improve
overall defense.
Acquisition of NT Maake Kemoeatu could improve the defensive line.
Can 1st round pick LT Trent Williams from Oklahoma step right in and perform
at a high level?
Acquisition of RT Jammal Brown (coming back from injuries)
& RG Artis Hicks could improve the O-line.
LaRon Landry return to strong safety.
Threats:
DL Albert Haynesworth / head coach Mike Shanahan relationship (will
Haynesworth embrace his role in the 3-4 defense?)
Loss of LT Chris Samuels (retirement).
Loss of RG Mike Williams (blood clots). Andre Carter moving
from DE to OLB.
FS Kareem Moore (knee injury).
Competitive division rivals (Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants,
Philadelphia Eagles).
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Redskins will face off 7 times versus playoff squads from a season ago;
Of course the Eagles have a slight change at the QB position, as do the Redskins.
Other potentially competitive matchups include;
Okay, the Bears are borderline. But either way, Washington’s schedule grades as one of the
tougher slates on paper.
Record Projection:
The 2010 Redskins face a tough schedule, but they have new coaching,
new schemes, and some key upgrades.
Overall we project the Redskins to go (9-7), a slight upgrade
(before the regular season begins) from our opening preseason projection.
