Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the regular season
NFL win total line
for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers set at 6 wins.
This number is an increase of 2 wins
from Tampa Bay’s prior year finish of (4-10).
Does this number represent optimism eminating from Nevada
that the ‘Bucs will improve year over year?
Or is the number a misguided reflection of the betting public thinking
Tampa Bay has an easy schedule as shown by the combined winning % of last season’s opponenets
checking in at a low .484?
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the ‘Bucs will play 6 times against playoff squads from a season ago.
Overall that’s 1 fewer game versus playoff teams compared to a season ago.
Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. While the Buccaneers’ strength of schedule appears on the light side
upon first glance, thanks to the combined winning percentage of their
opponents chiming in at just .484 from the prior season,
consider Philadelphia, Dallas, and San Diego are teams most would agree underperformed last year.
Tampa Bay will face these squads traveling to face the Cowboys in week 3,
hosting San Diego in week 10, and hosting Philadelphia in week 14…
As a result, Tampa’s schedule is likely to be tougher in reality than the
numbers show.
Furthermore, two contests versus division rival Carolina would normally be welcomed due to the
fact the Panthers allowed 429 points last season… However, this will likely be more than offset
by a Buccaneers’
squad which allowed a league high 494 points… Numbers like these are not easily reversed in a single
season. Although if Gerald McCoy can last an enitire season, that could help spur a turnaround.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Buccaneers to falter at (3-13), missing
the Vegas season win total of 6 wins. This is a slight upgrade following an initial downgrade from
our opening projection.
While Vincent Jackson was added to boost the WR core, it was a lot to spend and
we feel much of his success was the result of the QB throwing to him over the years (Philip
Rivers). Furthermore, the loss of offensive lineman Davin Joseph may be too much to handle.
Finally, we view the Buccaneers’ schedule as being tougher than meets the eye.
