Seattle Seahawks 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Seattle Seahawks Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Seattle Seahawks set at 7.5 wins.
This represents an increase of .5 win over Seattle’s
prior season record of (7-9).
And it also represents an increase of 1.5 wins compared
to the Seahawks’ regular season win total line from
last preseason.
We think this line has been held back by the fact
Seattle is suiting up a new quarterback.
That QB was originally expected to be offseason acquisition Matt Flynn
who was recently beat out by rookie
QB Russell Wilson in preseason.
The line of 7.5 wins might seem tempting to the over
considering the Seahawks fielded a top 10 defense last season,
while scoring wins
on the road over the Super Bowl
champ Giants, plus home to both Baltimore and Philadelphia…
However, the betting public tends to overvalue offense,
while undervaluing defense. And in addition to starting an unproven
QB at the pro level, there are concerns about
Seattle’s wide receiving core as well as offensive line.
Although some of these issues could be masked by Wilson’s
mobility.
On the other side of the ball Seattle is strong in the secondary,
solid on the line, and hopes to get some improvement at linebacker
with 2nd round pick Bobby Wagner.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Seahawks will play just 5 contests versus squads that made the
postseason a year ago (the same number of such contests as last season);
That’s a fairly low number of such contests. And there’s only 1 such game in the second half of the season.
However, making the schedule tougher are two games versus teams which underperformed last
season; Dallas at home in week 2, and @Chicago in week 13. The Bears surely would have been
a playoff squad if not for Cutler’s injury.
Other potentially competitive matchups include @Arizona in week 1,
@Carolina in week 5, NY Jets at home in week 10, and @Buffalo (a team on the rise with
vast defensive improvement in the offseason) in week 15.
Lighter fare includes; @St. Louis in week 4, home to Minnesota in week 9, @Miami in week 12,
home to Arizona in week 14, and home to St. Louis in week 17.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Seahawks to go (9-7), topping the season win total line of 7.5 wins.
We think they’ll get the better of division rival Arizona who finished with a similar record last season.
While the Seahawks defense isn’t as good as division rival San Francisco, it’s better than Arizona’s.
Plus we view Seattle as having more upside at the QB position in comparison to the ‘Cards.
Seattle’s schedule contains a handful of games that are likely to be tougher in reality
than on paper (think Dallas, Chicago & Buffalo). However we see plenty of winnable matchups as well.
