Seattle Seahawks 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Seahawks (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
Linebacking crew; MLB Lofa Tatupu, OLB Aaron Curry, OLB Will Herring, OLB Leroy Hill (suspended
1 game), RG Max Unger, K Olindo Mare, P Jon Ryan.
Weaknesses:
Rushing offense, offensive line’s run blocking & pass blocking,
pass defense, safety depth, DE, pass rush, punt coverage.
Opportunities:
New head coach Pete Carroll could eventually
get the Seahawks back on their feet.
1st round pick LT Russell Okung from Oklahoma State
could improve the offensive line.
Second 1st round pick FS Earl Thomas from Texas
could bolster the pass defense.
Signing of WR Mike Williams, (renewed commitment to football),
looked solid in preseason.
2nd round selection WR Golden Tate from
Notre Dame provides a deep threat.
Acquisition of DE Chris Clemons could
help the pass rush.
Acquisition of RB Leon Washington could improve kick returns.
Acquisition of QB Charlie Whitehurst
as a candidate for future starter.
Acquisition of RG Stacy Andrews & LG Chester Pitts
provides O-line depth.
Threats:
Loss of LT Walter Jones (retirement),
loss of DE Patrick Kerney (retirement),
loss of WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh,
loss of WR Nate Burleson,
LT Russell Okung (high ankle sprain).
WR Deion Branch (can he stay on the field
for a full season?)
OLB Leroy Hill off-field problems.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Seahawks will play just 4 contests versus squads that made the postseason a year ago;
Working in Seattle’s favor is Arizona’s loss of QB Kurt Warner.
Other potentially competitive matchups for the Seahawks in their current rebuilding state include;
25% of Seattle’s games fall into the lighter competition category;
However, most of these games are late in the season, when the rebuilding Seahawks may already be
thinking about next year and draft picks.
Record Projection:
The Seahawks are in a rebuild mode. The offensive line has a ways to go, as does the defensive line
and secondary. Overall we project a (3-13) mark for the Seahawks,
a downgrade from our opening projection earlier this preseason.
