San Diego Chargers 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 San Diego Chargers Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the San Diego Chargers set at 9 wins.
This number represents a decrease of .5 win from San Diego’s
prior year regular season win total line of 9.5, which the Chargers
fell under, finishing with a record of (8-8).
The Chargers are looking for a bounce back after Philip Rivers had a nightmarish
season.
It may not be an easy task after losing offensive linemen Kris Dielman and
Marcus McNeill. However, a healthy Antonio Gates could go a long way toward making it possible.
The Chargers parted ways with WR Vincent Jackson, and WR
Vincent Brown has been lost for at least half the season, but
WR Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal were added.
The Chargers need Malcom Floyd to stay healthy. His numbers project out nicely
on a 16 game season. But he always seems to get hurt laying out for the ball, making a great catch
in an awkward position…
On the other side of the ball, San Diego’s defense was middle of the road last season on a yards per game
basis.
Rookie LB Melvin Ingram was drafted to help put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
LB Jarett Johnson was added from Baltimore.
Additionally, LB Larry English is healthy and could finally help the cause. An improved pass
rush would certainly help the secondary.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Bolts find themselves with one of the tougher strengths of schedules in the league
on paper
with the combined winning percentage of their opponents in the prior year
checking in at the .520 mark.
In 2012 the Chargers will play 7 games versus teams that made the playoffs in the prior season.
This is the same number of such games compared to last season;
These contests are bunched together in two 4 week periods with the toughest stretch coming between weeks 11 – 14.
Other potentially competitive games include; @Oakland in week 1,
Tennessee in week 2, @Kansas City in week 4, Kansas City in week 9,
@NY Jets in week 16.
Lighter competition on paper includes @Cleveland in week 8,
@Tampa Bay in week 10, home to Carolina in week 15, and home to
Oakland in week 17.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Chargers to go (8-8), falling under the Las
Vegas season win total of 9 games. We view the Chargers as needing to be
stronger on both lines to project double digit wins.
That said, if San Diego tops this number, we’ll not be overly surprised.
A healthy
Gates could revitalize the passing game, provided the O-line holds up.
