Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Pittsburgh Steelers Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Pittsburgh Steelers set at 10 wins.
This number represents a decrease of .5 win from Pittsburgh’s
prior year regular season win total line of 10.5, which the Steelers
topped, finishing with a record of (12-4).
The Steelers have some issues coming into this season.
Most notable is the offensive line situation with top draft pick
David DeCastro on IR for the first half of the season.
The late arrival of WR Mike Wallace is of concern.
As is the early season status of LB James Harrison.
Additionally, RB Rashard Mendenhall is returning from an injured ACL.
So where does that leave the Steelers coming into the 2012 season?
Answer: One of eight teams with a season win total line in the double digits.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Steelers find themselves with a middle of the road strength of schedule
with the combined winning percentage of their opponents in the prior year
checking in at the .500 mark.
In 2012 the Steelers will play 6 games versus teams that made the playoffs in the prior season.
This represents the same number of such games compared to the prior year campaign.
Most of these tough contests are in the second half of the season, with the most important
games coming in weeks 11, 13 & 16, which gives the Steelers
a chance to establish some continuity on the OL, perhaps even get DeCastro back for these games.
Of course there is always the chance Ben Roethlisberger won’t be standing by then.
Making the schedule tougher are four games versus teams which most would agree
underperformed last
season; Philadelphia in week 5, Kansas City in week 10, San Diego in week 14, and
@Dallas in week 15… On the plus side the first 3 of these 4 contests are at home.
Meanwhile, lighter competition include the following games;
@Oakland in week 3, home to Washington in week 8, @Cleveland in week 12,
and home to Cleveland in week 17.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Steelers to go (11-5), topping the Las
Vegas season win total of 10 games.
Roethlisberger is nimble enough to overcome the offensive line situation
and make enough big plays to win games, even though he might get sacked
with regularity.
Meanwhile, the Steelers’ defense surrendered the fewest yards per game last season.
The unit will likely carry Pittsburgh to the playoffs.
