Pittsburgh Steelers 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Steelers (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
QB Ben Roethlisberger (play extending ability), ageless WR Hines Ward,
defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau,
linebacking core, OLB’s LaMarr Woodley & James Harrison, ILB James Farrior,
defensive line (Casey Hampton),
rush defense, SS Troy Polamalu, secondary, K Jeff Reed, TE Heath Miller,
QB depth, kickoff returns.
Weaknesses:
Offensive line pass protection,
RB experience, kickoff coverage.
Opportunities:
Return of SS Troy Polamalu from injury and CB Bryant McFadden via trade should
restore a top flight pass defense. WR Mike Wallace has an opportunity to explode
in the passing game with more snaps. Return of LB Larry Foote adds depth to the linebacking
unit, 1st round draft pick C Maurkice Pouncey of Florida could provide a boost to the O-line.
Keep an eye on 6th round selection RB Jonathan Dwyer from Georgia Tech.
Threats:
QB Ben Roethlisberger suspension,
departure of WR Santonio Holmes,
loss of RT Willie Colon for the season.
In division competitive front; Baltimore’s acquisition of WR’s Anquan Boldin & T.J. Houshmandzadeh,
Cincinnati’s acquisition of WR Terrell Owens.
Abundance of competitive teams
in the AFC heading into the ’10 season
including
the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens,
Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots,
Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, and Houston Texans.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Steelers will play 7 games versus teams that made the playoffs a season ago;
What stands out is 6 of the 7 difficult contests above come after QB Ben Roethlisberger returns from his
suspension.
Other potential difficult competition includes;
Record Projection:
In 2010 we project the Steelers to go (10-6). Keys will be performing well when the schedule stiffens
towards the end of the season– especially at home versus Cincinnati & the Jets in weeks 14 & 15.
