2006 NFL Projection:
For a team that won the Super Bowl last season, the 2006
schedule for the Pittsburgh Steelers could have been tougher. For
starters, having two 6-10 finishers in the division always helps.
And thanks to winning the Super Bowl as a wild card team, the Steelers
draw Miami and Jacksonville instead of New England and Indianapolis.
That being said, Miami with Culpepper, and the tough Jaguars are
not easy opponents by any stretch of the imagination. But if Roethlisberger
returns from his motorcycle accident near the same playing level
he exhibited in his first two seasons, the Steelers should find
themselves with a good chance to retake the AFC North thanks to
Cincinnati drawing the slightly tougher first place schedule, and
thanks to the Steelers having a defense that surrendered 92 fewer
points than that of the Bengals in 2005. In summary, whether it’s
by wild card or division title, the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers should
be considered one of six teams with a good chance to represent the
AFC in this season’s Super Bowl as long as Roethlisberger
retains his form.
