Philadelphia Eagles 2007 NFL Projection:
Last season the Philadelphia Eagles had one of the tougher
schedules in the league and Donovan McNabb only started 10 games.
Yet the Eagles still made the playoffs thanks to the top quality
coaching of Andy Reid…In 2007 the Eagles will play nine games versus teams that made the playoffs
in 2006. However, on the plus side, five of those games are versus teams that went either 8-8 or 9-7.
On the offensive side of the ball the Eagles should be a force. While losing Stallworth would normally hurt,
we think adding Kevin Curtis was a great move. Curtis probably would
have been a star in St. Louis if not stuck behind Holt and Bruce.
Over the past two seasons Curtis caught 10 touchdown passes in
10 starts. Look for Curtis to shine in Philadelphia, and haul in plenty of TD bombs from McNabb.
As long as McNabb stays healthy, the Eagles’ offense will be force.
Defensively the Eagles are coming off a season where they were middle of the road in yards
allowed per game, which was due to the weakness
of the rushing defense. On the plus side that didn’t always translate into points for the opposition as the
Eagles gave up the fewest points in the NFC East. Throw in the fact that Jevon Kearse only played in
two games, and there is certainly room for improvement on the defense overall.
As long the Eagles’ offense keeps scoring, that should keep opposing teams from running, thereby forcing the opposition
to attack the secondary, which is clearly the strength of the Eagles’ defense.
Overall, most of Philadelphia’s competitors in the NFC East appear to be weakening, while the Eagles look to be
holding their own.
We like the Eagles’ chances to win the NFC East in 2007, and have them penciled in for a record of (13-3).
This prediction assumes a few generous wins; at New England (call it Super Bowl revenge), and home to Chicago.
But even if the Eagles
drop those games, we still see them taking the NFC East.
Barring injuries Philadelphia should be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the 2007-2008 season.
