Oakland Raiders 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Raiders (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
CB Nnamdi Asomugha, pass defense,
TE Zach Miller, DL Richard Seymour, K Sebastian Janikowski, P Shane Lechler, punt coverage,
LG Robert Gallery, SS Tyvon Branch.
Weaknesses:
Rushing defense (although looks vastly improved), passing offense (mostly attributable to departed
QB JaMarcus Russell), kickoff returns, punt returns, kickoff coverage,
offensive line, coaching, wide receiver core.
Opportunities:
QB Jason Campbell is a substantial upgrade from QB JaMarcus Russell– so is QB Bruce Gradkowski by
the way…
LB Kamerion Wimbley acquired from Cleveland could help improve the pass rush.
1st round draft pick ILB Rolando McClain from Alabama,
DT John Henderson, DL Richard Seymour potentially sliding inside, and 2nd round selection DE Lamarr Houston from Texas
have the potential to improve Oakland’s
rushing defense.
WR Louis Murphy could become a legit deep threat…
Division rival San Diego unable to come to terms with WR Vincent Jackson or LT Marcus McNeill (as
of this writing).
Competitive front– Denver’s OLB Elvis Dumervil out for the year.
Threats:
RB Darren McFadden’s injury woes, WR Darrius Heyward-Bey inability to hang on to passes.
Schedule Analysis:
Oakland’s 2010 schedule
has just 4 games against playoff teams from a year ago;
Throw in the fact that Arizona no longer has QB Kurt Warner and the schedule seems to be devoid
of extremely difficult matchups.
However, the Raiders will face a host of mid level teams from last
season, many of which are considered playoff caliber including;
Throw in a trip to Denver in week 7 as a potentially difficult game.
Record Projection:
Overall we now project the Raiders to finish (8-8) in 2010.
This is a considerable upgrade from our opening projection, aided by a competitively played preseason
on both sides of the ball!
