Oakland Raiders 2007 NFL Projection:
Lane Kiffin takes over as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, a team coming off a (2-14) campaign…
While Oakland’s defense improved dramatically last season, giving up 51 fewer points than in 2006,
the offense scored 122 fewer points than in the previous season, and has now lost Randy Moss.
It’s tough to rave about the addition of Daunte Culpepper without first seeing how well he
physically moves at this point in time. But you never know, he could reclaim his former glory. Although
we’re not
betting on it. Without a receiver like Moss to throw the ball up for grabs to, and without the luxury
of playing indoors we don’t see
Culpepper leading much of a turn around in Oakland if were to be named the starter.
The Raiders will probably feel heat to turn to rookie QB JaMarcus Russell in 2007, assuming they
get him signed.
Looking at the schedule, the Raiders appear to have it rough again in 2007,
thanks of course to playing in the defensively tough AFC West.
Overall the Raiders will play eleven games versus teams that finished at .500
or better in 2006.
On the plus side, the Raiders also draw games versus Detroit, Cleveland, Houston, at Green Bay,
and at Minnesota, sporting a combined record of 27-53 in 2006. However, we’re not sure the offensive line
of the Raiders will enable the team to be competitive enough to get many wins in the games.
Overall, we’re predicting a (2-14) campaign. And will expect
better things a year or two down the road.
