New York Jets 2013 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2013 New York Jets Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2013 NFL regular season
win total line
for the New York Jets set at 6 wins. This is a slight downtick from a line of 6.5 on the heels
of the announcement Geno Smith will start at QB.
This number represents a decrease of 2.5 wins from last year’s
season win total line of 8.5, which the Jets went under
going (6-10) in the prior campaign.
Much like last season, the drop in season win total line year over year
has to do with weakness and uncertainty at quarterback.
Additionally, the Jets finished net negative 94 points last season.
And CB Darrelle Revis was traded to Tampa Bay.
Other weaknesses include safety and wide receiver.
However, the Jets still possess a solid offensive line.
And budding star DT Muhammad Wilkerson has the defensive line
in good shape.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2013 the Jets face a slightly below average strength of schedule, which overall is
unbalanced between strength of home and away opponenets
with the home strength much easier than the road strength.
The Jets’ 2013 schedule ranks middle of the pack for toughness with the combined winning
percentage of their opponents checking in at .492 in the prior campaign.
Overall the Jets will play just 5 times versus playoff teams from a season ago. This is the same low
number of such contests as last season;
4 of these matchups are road games which accounts for the unbalanced strength of schedule
noted above.
Schedule Nugget:
With the exception of Pittsburgh in week 6,
all 10 remaining games on the Jets’ schedule are versus teams which finished below .500 last season;
- Tampa Bay (7-9) in week 1
- Buffalo (6-10) in week 3
- @Tennessee (6-10) in week 4
- New Orleans (7-9) in week 9
- @Buffalo (6-10) in week 11
- Miami (7-9) in week 13
- Oakland (4-12) in week 14
- @Carolina (7-9) in week 15
- Cleveland (5-11) in week 16
- @Miami (7-9) in week 17
Granted several of these squads are on the rise including;
Tampa Bay, Miami, Tennessee, and Carolina.
Record Projection:
In 2013 we project the Jets to go (4-12), falling under the Las
Vegas season win total line of 6 wins.
If Geno Smith’s learning curve is quick, there could be upside to this projection.
