New York Jets 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 New York Jets Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the New York Jets set at 8.5 wins.
This number represents a decrease of 1.5 wins from New York’s
prior year season win total line of 10, which the Jets fell under
going (8-8) in the prior campaign.
Much of this line has to do with weakness at
quarterback with the combination of Mark Sanchez
and acquisition Tim Tebow.
Additionally the Jets are weak at running back
while also lacking at the wide receiver position beyond Santonio Holmes.
Of course the Jets have a solid offensive line as
well as a defense capable of winning games on its own.
Schedule Analysis:
The Jets’ 2012 schedule ranks middle of the pack for toughness with the combined winning
percentage of their opponents checking in at .492 in the prior campaign.
In 2012 the Jets will play just 5 times versus playoff teams from a season ago.
That’s the same fairly low number of contests in this category from a season ago.
However, more than half of the Jets’ first 7 games are against top flight competition,
which isn’t good news with a Jet offense seemingly having much to figure out.
Furthermore, the Jets draw Buffalo (expected to be vastly improved defensively) at home in week 1…
And an early season trip to hot Miami in week 3 can be viewed a rough scheduling break.
Other potentially competitive matchups include;
@Seattle in week 10, @Tennessee in week 15, home to San Diego in week 16 (weather advantage Jets),
and @Buffalo in week 17.
Lighter fair comes in the form of Indianapolis in week 6, Miami in week 8, @St. Louis in week 11,
Arizona in week 13, and @Jacksonville in week 14.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Jets to go (8-8), falling under the Las
Vegas season win total line of 8.5 victories.
Naturally with a defense as talented as the Jets
there is potential for upside. But for a team struggling so much
on offense this preseason, the Jets schedule seems overly front loaded with
difficult matchups very likely to put the Jets in an early season hole,
and perhaps out of the playoff picture.
