New York Jets 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Jets (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
Pass defense, CB Derrelle Revis, S Jim Leonhard, CB Antonio Cromartie,
CB depth,
rush defense,
NT Kris Jenkins,
linebacking core (ILB Bart Scott, ILB David Harris, OLB Calvin Pace,
OLB Jason Taylor), head coach Rex Ryan (defensive guru),
rushing offense,
offensive line run & pass blocking (C Nick Mangold, LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson,
RT Damien Woody, RG Brandon Moore), TE Dustin Keller,
kickoff returns, QB Mark Sanchez (scrambling ability).
Weaknesses:
Passing offense, QB Mark Sanchez accuracy, WR Braylon Edwards’ drops,
left guard, kickoff coverage.
Opportunities:
Acquisition of WR Santonio Holmes should improve the passing game.
Acquisition of CB Antonio Cromartie could make pass coverage even better.
Acquisition of S Brodney Pool could improve the physicality of the
secondary.
Acquisition of OLB Jason Taylor could improve the pass rush.
Can RB Shonne Green put in a full season at the solid pace seen during
last season’s finish?
Acquisition of RB LaDainian Tomlinson (may recapture some old magic
behind a tremendous run blocking O-line).
1st round draft selection CB Kyle Wilson from Boise State
could improve slot coverage.
Vernon Gholston could finally produce a little something.
Acquisition of K Nick Folk (will he be able to recapture
his previous prowess?)
4th round draft pick RB Joe McKnight could
be a solid replacement for Leon Washington.
Threats:
OLB Calvin Pace broken right foot.
S Brodney Pool ankle sprain.
Loss of LG Alan Faneca,
loss of RB Thomas Jones, loss of RB Leon Washington,
loss of S Kerry Rhodes,
loss of K Jay Feely.
WR Santonio Holmes suspension.
Abundance of competitive teams
in the AFC heading into the ’10 season
including
the Baltimore Ravens,
Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh
Steelers, Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers,
New England Patriots, and Houston Texans.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Jets will play 6 games versus playoff teams from a season ago;
As you’ll note five of these six contests are home games.
Other potentially competitive matchups include;
The Jets also get their share of lighter competition including;
As you can see the Jets benefit by playing most of their less competitive matchups on the road (meaning
more of their stiffer foes are at home).
Record Projection:
The Jets’ schedule lines up nicely as outlined above… But ironically it wouldn’t
surprise me if they lost their first two or three (Baltimore, New England, @Miami).
I’m not saying they will. But if they did, I still think they could go
(12-4). New York is stacked on defense and stacked
on their O-line, and they have great coaching.
They’re a threat to win no matter whom they suit up against.
Overall we project a (12-4) campaign, a slight upgrade from our opening forecast this preseason,
just prior to the season kicking off.
