New York Jets 2008 NFL Projection:
Mangini’s Jets originally focused on the line of scrimmage during the off-season. The signing of Alan Faneca, and ex-Patriot / ex-Lion Damien Woody are likely to do wonders for the Jets’ offensive line in 2008. Expect to see more holes for Thomas Jones in ’08 compared to last season which should aid the passing game as well.

Speaking of aiding the passing game, the signing of Favre to replace Pennington can’t help but do wonders for the Jets’ deep game. Cotchery and Coles are certainly solid enough receivers who put up good numbers with Pennington. So expect an all around offensive breakout for New York, now that Brettie is a Jet which should serve to keep their defense off the field more.

On the other side of the ball the addition of Kris Jenkins should help bolster a defense that ranked 29th against the rush last year. That’s of course assuming that Jenkins can handle playing the nose of a 3-4… If he is up to the task, the Jets’ defense projects to be much better than a year ago.

Schedule Analysis:
New York’s schedule is a collection of ups and downs in 2008. While New York will play just five games against teams that made the playoffs a year ago, two of these contests will of course be versus the Patriots, and four of five overall will be on the road.

On the plus side, the Jets draw seven games against teams that finished either 3rd or 4th in their respective division last season as follows;

They should take all seven of these games… Well, at least six of them.

On the downside, the Jets will make four trips to the West coast overall.

And they’ll also have to suit up in Miami during week 1 where the temperature could play equalizer or worse.

They’ll follow up that bad weather first week draw with the Patriots in week 2 and Chargers in week 3. So it seems rather imperative that the Jets survive the Miami heat, or else they could potentially be looking at an (0-3) start. However, even if the Jets start slow, nobody should panic. This is a strong looking team with an easy schedule. And the way we see it, if the Jets can win one of their first three games, they could be looking at a (12-4) season.

Record Projection:
Overall we’re predicting the Jets to bounce back huge in 2008 with a record of (12-4). Even without Favre, this was already a much improved squad. So the question is, will that be enough to take first place?
