New York Giants 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 New York Giants Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012
regular season win total betting line
for the New York Giants set at 9 wins…
This represents the same number of wins the Giants chalked up last regular season when they finished (9-7)
en route to a Super Bowl victory.
After the Giants phenomenal post season run, it must be tempting to
jump on the over here… Especially when you consider there are nine other teams with season win totals
above this number. So the number seems quite a value.
But last time I checked Vegas isn’t in business to giving too many easy pickins.
A good bit of this line has to do with the Giants having the toughest schedule in the league.
And don’t forget, the Giants allowed more points last regular season than they scored.
Meanwhile, division rivals Philadelphia and Dallas scored more points than they allowed.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Giants will play 7 games versus teams that made the postseason
a year ago. This is the identical number of such matchups compared to the
previous season;
Other competitive matchups include;
home to Dallas in week 1, @Philadephia in week 4, @Dallas in week 8,
and home to Philadelphia in week 17… In total that’s 11 tough matchups.
Also consider @Carolina in week 3 (think chasing Cam Newton in hot & humid weather), and a trip
@Washington in week 13 as potentially tough games.
For math purposes we’ll
project the combination of both of these road trips as equaling a single tough game… That would bring the number
of tough contests to twelve.
If the Giants were to drop either of these road trips,
it could keep potentially them out of the postseason.
Record Projection:
In an update to our opening projection, we’re going to back off our initial
(8-8) projection and increase our projection by one win, matching the
Vegas season win total of 9 games. We still don’t see the Giants going
over the line, as teams are sure to bring their A game for the champs,
the Giants’ schedule is brutal, and the season win total line seems lower than one might expect
for the champs, which we’ll take as a hint from the oddsmakers that things won’t be
easy for the Giants this season… That said, if the Giants
return to the postseason, they are clearly the style of team nobody wants to face
on any given playoff Sunday or Super Bowl Sunday.
