threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
QB Drew Brees, passing offense, WR depth (Marques Colston, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson,
Lance Moore),
rushing offense, offensive line’s pass blocking,
offensive line’s run blocking, RG Jahri Evans, C Jonathan Goodwin, LG Carl Nicks, LT Jaamal Brown,
LT Jermon Bushrod, RT Jon Stinchcomb…
CB’s Tracy Porter & Jabari Greer, FS Darren Sharper (interceptions, but on PUP list will miss first 6 games), DE Will Smith, RB Reggie Bush special teams,
head coach Sean Payton, defensive
coordinator Gregg Williams, kickoff returns.
Weaknesses:
Kickoff coverage, punt coverage, passing yards allowed.
Opportunities:
3rd round draft pick TE Jimmy Graham could give the Saints
an uncoverable tight end target… Division rival Carolina’s loss of DE
Julius Peppers to Chicago in free agency could make the Panthers
easier game.
Threats:
Loss of SLB Scott Fujita to Cleveland in free agency weakens linebacker core,
FS Darren Sharper out for 6 weeks, MLB Jonathan Vilma injury status.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the champs will square off just 5 times against playoff teams from a season ago;
The majority of these games are on the road. And at least one team (Arizona) no longer appears
to be playoff caliber having lost QB Kurt Warner to retirement.
Other potentially competitive games of note are;
Record Projection:
In 2010 we project the Saints to go (11-5). The Saints are likely to cruise early
until the schedule stiffens between weeks 12 – 16…
The NFC South has a history of teams failing to repeat as division winners, but this looks to be
the year the streak will snap– as New Orleans surely has what it takes to take the division once again.
