2006 NFL Projection:
In last season’s Divisional playoff loss at Denver,
the Patriots out gained the Broncos 420 – 286, but three fumbles
and two red zone interceptions resulted in a two touchdown victory
for the Broncos. Take away the turnovers, and it might have been
a two touchdown victory for the Patriots considering the yardage
comparison. Seen in this light, the Patriots certainly could have
played in the AFC championship game last season, and should be considered
Super Bowl contenders this season.
In 2006 the Patriots find perhaps
one of the easier schedules the team has faced in the last several
seasons thanks to the Jets and Bills finishing under .375 in 2005.
Not to mention games versus three other teams finishing below .375
in 2005 (the Texans, Lions, and Titans). All in all the Patriots
play seven games versus teams that finished 5-11 or worse in 2005.
As a result, New England should be able to cruise into the postseason
with one of the better records in the conference, where any home
field playoff advantage could prove too much to bear for teams unaccustomed
to playing in the cold.
