2006 NFL Projection:
In last season’s Divisional playoff loss at Denver, the Patriots out gained the Broncos 420 – 286, but three fumbles and two red zone interceptions resulted in a two touchdown victory for the Broncos. Take away the turnovers, and it might have been a two touchdown victory for the Patriots considering the yardage comparison. Seen in this light, the Patriots certainly could have played in the AFC championship game last season, and should be considered Super Bowl contenders this season.

In 2006 the Patriots find perhaps one of the easier schedules the team has faced in the last several seasons thanks to the Jets and Bills finishing under .375 in 2005. Not to mention games versus three other teams finishing below .375 in 2005 (the Texans, Lions, and Titans). All in all the Patriots play seven games versus teams that finished 5-11 or worse in 2005. As a result, New England should be able to cruise into the postseason with one of the better records in the conference, where any home field playoff advantage could prove too much to bear for teams unaccustomed to playing in the cold.

New England Patriots 2006 NFL Predictions

Week 1
Sep 10
Buffalo Win Projected – Odds greatly favor an opening day in division victory versus the Bills at Gillette Stadium, a.k.a. the Razor.
Week 2
Sep 17
@N.Y. Jets Win Projected – Looking to get their first road win of the season. Jets in rebuild mode.
Week 3
Sep 24
Denver Win Projected – Seeking revenge on Sunday night football for the 2005 divisional playoff loss to the Broncos at Invesco Field at Mile High.
Week 4
Oct 1
@Cincinnati Loss Projected – A big home game for the Bengals who will lay it all on the line before going into their bye week.
Week 5
Oct 8
Miami Win Projected – A maximum effort before the bye. Not a game the Patriots want to lose… Doing so could provide the Dolphins and their new quarterback Dante Culpepper with a world of confidence.
Week 6
Oct 15
BYE 4-1 at the bye if these preseason predictions for the 2006 New England Patriots prove accurate.
Week 7
Oct 22
@Buffalo Win Projected – Can’t afford any rust after the bye.
Week 8
Oct 30
@Minnesota Win Projected – Out of their element in the Metrodome, but not overmatched in this Monday night football meeting versus the Vikings.
Week 9
Nov 5
Indianapolis Win Projected – Playing on a short week in this Sunday night football showdown, but back in their element… And so is a certain place kicker for the Colts who has kicked better outdoors than indoors throughout his career. If the game comes down to a field goal attempt by Vinatieri at Gillette Stadium, it could become the top story of the first half of the season, and beyond.
Week 10
Nov 12
N.Y. Jets Win Projected – Cruising.
Week 11
Nov 19
@Green Bay Win Projected – On the road, but in a familiar climate.
Week 12
Nov 26
Chicago Win Projected – A great defense from 2005 comes to town. But can the Bears put up points at Gillette Stadium?
Week 13
Dec 3
Detroit Win Projected – Dome team out of their element… Las Vegas NFL odds in this matchup could be off the charts.
Week 14
Dec 10
@Miami Loss Projected – One of the tougher road tests of the season. This one could go to the Dolphins who have split with the Patriots the last two seasons.
Week 15
Dec 17
Houston Win Projected – Back on track versus the Texans who probably won’t enjoy the December temperature in Foxborough. The Las Vegas point spread in this matchup is also likely to be off the charts.
Week 16
Dec 24
@Jacksonville Loss Projected – The Jaguars seek revenge for last season’s wild card playoff defeat.
Week 17
Dec 31
@Tennessee Win Projected – Playoff positioning, could be playing for a first round playoff bye.
