Minnesota Vikings 2013 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2013 Minnesota Vikings Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2013 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Minnesota Vikings set at 7 wins.
This number represents a decrease of 3 wins compared to
the Vikings prior year record of (10-6). It
also represents an increase of 1 win compared to last
season’s win total betting line of 6, which the Vikings
blew past on route to a wild card berth.
So why the low line given Minnesota’s 10 win season last year?
Much of this line has to do with the betting public’s perception
of QB importance. The NFC North is stacked with big name
quarterbacks; Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler & Matthew Stafford…
Minnesota QB Christian Ponder is not on the list…
Especially given his inability to connect on the deep ball.
Something
that could potentially change
for the better with the arrival of WR Greg Jennings.
However, the short passing game may simultaneously take a hit
with the departure of WR Percy Harvin.
The loss of Antoine Winfield hurts the secondary as well.
On the plus side, the Vikings sport a terrific offensive line
to open holes for RB Adrian Peterson, while also possessing
a strong defensive line.
Minnesota also had a great draft on paper with three 1st round picks.
Schedule Analysis:
On paper Minnesota’s 2013 schedule ranks in the top third for toughness, just like
last season, thanks to playing
in the NFC North with Green Bay (11-5), and a Chicago team
that missed the postseason with a (10-6) mark.
Overall the Vikings will play 6 games versus teams that made the playoffs a season ago.
The same number as the previous season. Although the first such contest doesn’t
come until week 8.
However, one can also argue the Bears could have been a playoff team last season.
Furthermore, the Vikings play 3 other games versus teams
.500 or better last season, and expected to be in the playoff race including;
Pittsburgh (in London), @NY Giants, and @Dallas.
Taken altogether, the Vikings have 11 tough outs on the schedule.
And while Minnesota may be a tough out themselves for other teams–
thanks to a great rushing offense & rushing defense,
the Vikings could conceivably lose an alarming number of these games.
Record Projection:
In 2013 we now project the Vikings to go (8-8), topping the
Vegas season win total of 7 games. This is a slight upgrade from our opening
projection.
While the Vikings sport a great ground game and solid run defense,
we think they face too many tough outs in 2013 to duplicate
last year’s 10 win season.
If Greg Jennings can help turn Ponder’s deep ball into scores,
then there could be some upside to this projection.
