2006 NFL Projection:
The Vikings part with Culpepper and Burleson, but add Steve Hutchinson and Chester Taylor. While Brad Johnson is no spring chicken, he is still a very capable quarterback with a Super Bowl win on his resume that any NFL team should be able to win games behind.

However, with eight difficult games on the schedule and realistic chance to start 0-3 (averted with a win at Washington), the Vikings might have to take a step back, or tread some water, before they take a major step forward in the record improvement department, as five of the first seven games are versus teams that made the playoffs in 2005.

Minnesota Vikings 2006 NFL Predictions

Week 1
Sep 11
@Washington Loss Projected – Tough to win on the road versus a good defense on Monday night football. The earlier of two Monday night football games scheduled on the 11th.
Week 2
Sep 17
Carolina Loss Projected – Even tougher to win versus last season’s runner up conference champs.
Week 3
Sep 24
Chicago Win Projected – With this season’s difficult schedule, starting 0-3 may not be out of the question. Fortunately, the Bears are out of their element playing indoors which could help make the difference as the Vikings probably won’t need to score too many points on offense to win the game.
Week 4
Oct 1
@Buffalo Win Projected – Winnable road game. The Vikings will be out of their element, but catch a break as this game takes place in early October rather than ice cold December.
Week 5
Oct 8
Detroit Win Projected – A maximum effort heading into the bye should be enough to seal the deal.
Week 6
Oct 15
BYE 3-2 at the bye if these preseason predictions for the 2006 Minnesota Vikings hold up.
Week 7
Oct 22
@Seattle Loss Projected – Must avoid rust after the bye as the schedule doesn’t get very friendly here.
Week 8
Oct 30
New England Loss Projected – The schedule stays tough in this Monday night showdown with the Patriots.
Week 9
Nov 5
@San Francisco Win Projected – Certainly a winnable road game. Especially after playing stiff competition like Seattle and New England. But it will be the second West Coast trip in three weeks, plus they’ll working on a short week. And the 49ers pulled off some upsets at home last season. Vikings beware…
Week 10
Nov 12
Green Bay Win Projected – A chance to build some momentum versus a certain team with a QB known for dome woes.
Week 11
Nov 19
@Miami Loss Projected – Matchup versus Dante Culpepper’s new team. And another scheduling break as this game takes place after much of the Florida heat will have dissipated for the year. However, the Dolphins were also one of the strongest finishers in 2005.
Week 12
Nov 26
Arizona Win Projected – Former Vikings coach Green comes to town.
Week 13
Dec 3
@Chicago Loss Projected – Tough to win on the road versus a good defense in the cold.
Week 14
Dec 10
@Detroit Win Projected – Could be going for another sweep of the Lions.
Week 15
Dec 17
N.Y. Jets Win Projected – A winnable home game versus a team will be out of their element indoors.
Week 16
Dec 21
@Green Bay Loss Projected – Could be bone cold out in this Thursday night football game. If the Vikings are in the playoff hunt they will be tested by the cold if not by the Packers.
Week 17
Dec 31
St. Louis Win Projected – Could potentially be a playoff spot on the line.
