Kansas City Chiefs 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Kansas City Chiefs Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Kansas City Chiefs set at 8 wins.
This number represents an increase of .5 win from Kansas City’s
prior year regular season win total line of 7.5, which the Chiefs
fell under, finishing with a record of (7-9).
Considering how woeful the Chief’s offense was last season (losing Jamaal Charles and Tony Moeaki to injuries)
the defense held up well. And that was with losing S Eric Berry in week 1.
In 2012
The Chiefs get both RB Jamaal Charles and TE Tony Moeaki back from ACL injuries. S Eric Berry returns.
And they added RB Peyton Hillis,
TE Kevin Boss, and RT Eric Winston. However, questions
about QB Matt Cassel’s ability to be game day factor loom large.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ defense is currently fighting the injury bug with the week 1 status of
NT Anthony Toribio, ILB Jovan Belcher, S Kendrick Lewis, and CB Brandon Flowers
in question.
The Chiefs also parted ways with CB Brandon Carr.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Chiefs find themselves with a slightly easier than average strength of schedule on paper
with the combined winning percentage of their opponents in the prior year
checking in at the .492 mark.
This season the Chiefs will play 7 games versus teams that made the playoffs in the prior season.
This is an increase of 1 such game compared to the prior season;
This is quite a brutal group of games, especially considering Denver’s addition of Peyton Manning
which on paper makes the Chiefs’ schedule tougher than initially meets the eye.
Further toughening the Chiefs’ schedule are of course 2 contests versus division rival San Diego,
a team which most would agree
underperformed last season. In fact the Chiefs were fortunate not to get swept, thanks to a botched snap
a play before San Diego was planning to attempt a game winning field goal.
A trip to Buffalo in week 2 brings another team we expect to be playoff caliber, thanks to an improved
defense with the signing of Mario Williams.
Lighter competition includes @Tampa Bay in week 6, Oakland in week 8 (last season’s overachievers),
home to Carolina in week 13 (possible whether advantage), @Cleveland in week 14,
@Oakland in week 15, and home to Indianapolis in week 16.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Chiefs to go (8-8), matching the Las
Vegas season win total of 8 wins.
With Kansas City’s schedule looking much tougher than meets the eye (10/16 games in our tough category)
we feel it would take a monumental turnaround on offense– or far better than expected defensive
play to reach double digit victories.
