2006 NFL Projection:
As of the writing of these preseason predictions, the status of Willie Roaf is not entirely clear. However, the Chiefs find an easier schedule compared to other top teams of 2005, as a result of drawing the NFC West & AFC North, each with two teams that finished with six wins or less in 2005.

Further favorable scheduling situations are in play such as drawing the Jaguars at home in week 17, when it may be a bit a little too cold for the visitors, while also traveling to Miami in mid November when much of the Florida heat is likely to have dissipated.

Perhaps most importantly, 2006 presents one of the lighter second half schedules the Chiefs have faced in several years. As Chiefs fans know, the second half of the season has not been kind to Kansas City, in part due to the competitiveness of the AFC West, and tough second half scheduling spoiling several hot first halfs to the season. The favorable scheduling this year opens the door for a solid 10-6 team from 2005 that barely missed the playoffs to potentially capitalize and make some big noise in 2006.

Even if Willie Roaf stays retired, the Chiefs should be able to take advantage of the more favorable scheduling and perhaps challenge Denver for the top spot in the West.

If Herm Edwards can get the defense to improve enough compared to last season, the Chiefs may have a solid chance to go deep into the playoffs and perhaps more.

Kansas City Chiefs 2006 NFL Predictions

Week 1
Sep 10
Cincinnati Win Projected – With a trip to Denver on deck, the Chiefs need to win their home opener versus the Bengals or face the possibility of heading into their early bye week winless.
Week 2
Sep 17
@Denver Loss Projected – Invesco Field at Mile High isn’t the easiest place to get road win. It’s only week 2, but this game could end up having several playoff implications when looking back at the end of the season.
Week 3
Sep 24
BYE 1-1 at the bye if these preseason predictions for the 2006 Kansas City Chiefs hold up. That should be acceptable if the Chiefs can come back and win the second matchup versus Denver at home in late November.
Week 4
Oct 1
San Francisco Win Projected – Time to get back on track after the bye.
Week 5
Oct 8
@Arizona Loss Projected – Certainly a winnable road game. But can’t get caught looking ahead to the champs versus a team that can move the ball through the air.
Week 6
Oct 15
@Pittsburgh Loss Projected – Will need a strong defensive effort to knock the champs off on their home field. But Herm Edwards almost pulled it off two seasons ago at Heinz Field in the playoffs when coaching the Jets.
Week 7
Oct 22
San Diego Win Projected – Not many first year starting quarterbacks win in Arrowhead Stadium.
Week 8
Oct 29
Seattle Win Projected – If they don’t beat the champs in week 6, count on an extra effort to go after the Super Bowl runner up Seahawks home in week 8.
Week 9
Nov 5
@St. Louis Loss Projected – The Edward Jones dome is a tough place to get a road win.
Week 10
Nov 12
@Miami Win Projected – They had success in Miami last season in a Friday night affair.
Week 11
Nov 19
Oakland Win Projected – Odds should favor the Chiefs as the Raiders will be playing their fourth tough game in a row.
Week 12
Nov 23
Denver Win Projected – The Broncos come to Arrowhead for a Thanksgiving night football game that’s likely to have significant playoff implications. The loser of the first meeting will need a win in this matchup.
Week 13
Dec 3
@Cleveland Win Projected – The Chiefs may need to guard against a let down after a big Thanksgiving meeting versus the Broncos.
Week 14
Dec 10
Baltimore Win Projected – A must win home game to keep the momentum going if these preseason projections hold up.
Week 15
Dec 17
@San Diego Loss Projected – The Chargers could be jelling under Rivers by this point in the season making this road game a potentially harder matchup than if it had been scheduled earlier in the season. Even if San Diego isn’t on the playoff pace, they’ll still want to give their all versus the Chiefs at Qualcomm.
Week 16
Dec 23
@Oakland Win Projected – A Saturday night football game at the McAfee Coliseum. Winning out could be imperative to improve any potential playoff positioning.
Week 17
Dec 31
Jacksonville Win Projected – A game that is likely to have several playoff implications. Odds are it will be a little too cold for the Jaguars to play at their best level.
