Indianapolis Colts 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Colts (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
Passing offense with QB Peyton Manning, WR Reggie Wayne, TE Dallas Clark,
WR Pierre Garcon, WR Anthony Gonzalez, WR Austin Collie, and RB Joseph Addai. Receiver depth.
Pass rush from DE’s Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis.
Secondary with CB’s Jerraud Powers & Kelvin Hayden, plus safeties Antoine Bethea &
Bob Sanders (when healthy).
Weaknesses:
Rushing offense (offensive line’s run blocking), rushing defense, outside linebackers,
kickoff coverage, punt returns, backup QB.
Opportunities:
1st round pick DE Jerry Hughes from TCU in the mold of DE Dwight Freeney.
2nd round pick LB Pat Angerer from Iowa in the mold of MLB Gary Brackett.
Threats:
S Bob Sanders’ injury proneness.
Abundance of playoff caliber teams
in the AFC heading into the 2010 season
including;
the Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers, New York Jets,
Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh
Steelers, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans.
Schedule Analysis:
Like last season, Indianapolis’ schedule isn’t exactly the most imposing schedule
drawn by a returning playoff team.
The Colts will play just 5 games against playoff teams from a season ago;
In an odd scheduling twist all five of these games come in a row between weeks 7 – 11.
Other potentially tough contests include clashes with division rival Tennessee in weeks 14 & 17,
and Houston in weeks 1 & 8… Not to mention the Giants in week 2 and @Washington in week 6.
Record Projection:
In 2010 we project the Colts to go (12-4), good for 1st place in the AFC South.
