Indianapolis Colts 2007 NFL Projection:
Defense wins championships and the Indianapolis defense certainly rose to the occasion during the playoffs
last season after having a rough go during the regular season.
Of course Peyton Manning and the
offense had a remarkable season, pulling out several games
that looked to be lost in the closing moments, helping to lift
the Colts to a (12-4) record versus what proved to be very difficult schedule.
Overall the Colts went an amazing (8-1) versus teams that made the playoffs last season. Quite a feat for
a team with a defense that surrendered 360 points during the regular season.
The question is, how hungry will the Colts be in 2007?
To match last
season’s success, the Colts will have to be hungry, as as they are set to face another very
tough schedule in 2007, with
eight games versus top teams with legitimate defenses, including a brutal four game stretch from
week 7 to week 10 as follows;
With additional games versus New Orleans, Jacksonville, Denver, and @Baltimore, on paper it appears
that half the Colts’ games will be against strong teams gunning for the
champs.
Will the Colts be up to the task?
Surely the offense will be up the challenge. But we have a few doubts about the ability of the
defense to consistently stop the run.
Clearly if the Colts are going to repeat, it won’t be an easy road.
Of course Indianapolis will have their traditional 4 heavily favored games against the Texans and Titans.
Although, Indy somehow split with both teams last season and still went an amazing (12-4)!
However, we believe that marked as champs, it will be tough to match last season’s record versus such
a strong schedule.
Overall we’re predicting a (10-6) record for the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, and
perhaps
a difficult time getting into the payoffs, although we’re now adjusting our prediction to include the Colts
in the postseason, due to a devaluation of the Broncos based on the preseason injury to Ebenezer Ekuban.
However, even if a team has a top notch defense, it’s hard enough
to repeat as champs. So we’re not confident that the Colts can repeat.
Of course if any team has an offense strong enough
to overcome the odds of winning the Super Bowl without a top rated defense, it’s the Colts as they proved in 2006 – 2007.
