Houston Texans 2011 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2011 Houston Texans Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
Oddsmakers currently have the regular season
win total betting line for the Houston Texans set at 9 wins…
This represents an increase of 3 wins from the Texans’
prior year regular season mark of (6-10)
and is tied with Dallas for the largest jump from any team’s ’10 record.
Part of this line has to do with
uncertainty surrounding the neck injury to Indianapolis’
Peyton Manning… This is the likely cause of
Houston’s season win total line creeping up 1/2 point from
8.5 to 9.
Of course the Texans are battling their own
injury question with Arian Foster’s hamstring woes,
but seem adequately deep at RB to stem the tide with Ward and Tate.
Part of this line also includes expectations for an
improved defense under Wade Phillips. The Texans’
record surely could have been better last season
if not for late game defensive collapses.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2011 the Texans will play 6 games versus teams that made the playoffs a year ago.
This is a reduction of 1 such matchup compared to the previous season, but still
represents a fairly high number of contests.
Not to mention @Tampa Bay in week 10, a team on the playoff bubble with 10 wins.
Other potentially competitive matchups include;
@Miami in week 2, @Tennessee in week 7, the aforementioned @Tampa Bay in week 10, and @Jacksonville in week 12
(which comes after Houston’s bye week)… If not for Tennessee and Jacksonville
being division rivals, these road games might be considered lighter fare in 2011.
Meanwhile, lighter competition includes;
Oakland in week 5, Jacksonville in week 8, Cleveland in week 9,
@Cincinnati in week 14, Carolina in week 15, and Tennessee in week 17…
Record Projection:
In 2011 we project the Texans to go (10-6), topping the
Vegas season win total of 9 games. Houston’s offense is
formidable. And we project they can take the AFC South
if their defense can improve to at least average NFL
caliber.
Of course injuries could always wreak havoc in the other direction.
