Houston Texans 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Texans (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
Passing game (WR Andre Johnson, QB Matt Schaub, TE Owen Daniels if fully healed from torn ACL)…
DE Mario Williams, LB Brian Cushing, RT Eric Winston.
Wide receiver depth with Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Jacoby Jones and
David Anderson. Punt coverage.
Weaknesses:
Running game ranked 30th last season.
RB Arian Foster’s lack of experience, RB Steve Slaton’s fumbling, RB depth (loss of rookie RB
Ben Tate for the season), QB Matt Schaub prone to
injuries (but finally made it though a full season last year),
secondary.
Opportunities:
TE Owen Daniels returning from torn ACL (will he regain his speed)?
Threats:
Loss of CB Dunta Robinson in free agency to Atlanta… The Texans need first round pick
Kareem Jackson from Alabama to fill those shoes.
Suspension of LB Brian Cushing for 4 games,
abundance of playoff caliber teams
in the AFC heading into 2010
including; Colts, Jets, Ravens, Chargers
Bengals, Dolphins,
Steelers, Titans, and Patriots.
Schedule Analysis:
Overall the Texans will play 7 games against playoff squads from a year ago as follows;
Missing LB Brian Cushing for their first 4 games will hurt.
Then it’s a tough stretch from week 8 through 14– full of quality teams.
Furthermore, one shouldn’t discount
two clashes with division rival Tennessee in weeks 12 & 15, or NFC East contests traveling to an
improved Washington team in week 2,
and versus the Giants in week 5… Additionally, if the Texans have any visions about making the postseason,
they can’t get swept by Jacksonville again. In fact, they likely will need to do the sweeping,
and at least split with Tennessee and Indianapolis.
Record Projection:
Overall we now project a record of
(9-7) for the 2010 Houston Texans– a slight downgrade from our opening
forecast based on improving strength of competition.
