Detroit Lions 2013 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2013 Detroit Lions Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2013 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Detroit Lions set at 8 wins.
This represents an increase of 4 wins
from the Lions prior year mark of (4-12) in which they sported
the third worst point differential in the NFC… The season win total
number is also a decrease of 1
win compared to last season’s win total line of 9 wins.
Factors favoring a jump in wins in 2013 include; the signing of Reggie Bush,
hopes for a healthy season from DT Nick Fairley, and the return of WR
Nate Burleson who missed most of last season.
Factors working against the Lions include;
QB Matthew Stafford’s inconsistencies,
offensive line questions, the departure of
DE Cliff Avril, the departure of K Jason Hanson,
and the second toughest schedule in the league on paper.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2013 Detroit will face the 2nd toughest schedule in the league.
The schedule includes
7 contests versus squads that made the postseason
in the prior campaign (an increase of 2 such contests
compared to the previous season).
Additionally, contests versus division rival Chicago, a team
which missed the playoffs with a mark of (10-6) a season ago, also rate as near playoff competition.
Contests versus NY Giants, @Pittsburgh, and Dallas arguably grade in the same category.
Meanwhile, contests versus Tampa Bay and a trip to Philadelphia in cold December
could see the Lions installed anywhere from short favorites to short underdogs.
The only contests which grade in the easy department are road games
at Cleveland and at Arizona… Not to mention the Cardinals had the fifth best pass defense
in the prior season.
Record Projection:
In 2013 we now project the Lions to go (6-10), falling below the
season win total line of 8 games. This is a slight downgrade following an initial
upgrade from our opening projection.
If Matthew Stafford is on the top of his game,
and/or the defense improves dramatically in the “points surrendered department”,
then there’s certainly some upside to this projection.
But the more we look at it, the more we don’t like Detroit’s schedule at all.
