Detroit Lions 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Detroit Lions Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, some oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Detroit Lions set at 9 wins, and others at 9.5 wins…
Since the 9 win number represents a tighter line with less juice, that’s
the number we’ll be using… It represents a decrease of 1 win
from the Lions prior year mark of (10-6)… 9 wins is also an increase of 1
win compared to last year’s regular season win total line of 8 wins.
Surely a line under 10 wins is tempting action to the over.
After all, last season the Lions were offensive darlings,
trailing only the top 3 elite squads of Green Bay, New Orleans,
and New England in scoring. And their defensive line
rotation has the ability to be great.
So shouldn’t the Lions be able to repeat their
10 win performance or better?
Tempering this line to the downside
are the Lions running back woes,
poor run blocking, plus secondary questions.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 Detroit will play just 5 contests versus squads that made the postseason
in the prior campaign. This is a reduction of 2 such contest
compared to the previous season. And quite the low number.
However, looks can be deceiving, as division rival Chicago is surely a playoff caliber squad,
and likely would have made the prior postseason if not for QB Jay Cutler’s injury. Furthermore,
the Bears have added WR Brandon Marshall to the mix.
Furthermore, a similar case can be made for Philadelphia with QB Vick, a team Detroit will travel to face in week 6.
Other potentially tough contests include @Tennessee in week 3 (think heat), home to Seattle in week 8 (a team on the rise).
Meanwhile, trips to Minnesota in week 10, and to Arizona in week 15 may not be as tough, but may not be cakewalks.
Contests grading as easy come in week 1 home to St. Louis, week 4 home to Minnesota, week 9 @Jacksonville,
and week 13 home to Indianapolis.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Lions to go (10-6), topping the
season win total line of 9 games.
With such a potent passing attack, the room for upside certainly exists,
especially given the NFL’s modern pass friendly rules restricting the play
of pass defenders… However, Detroit’s schedule grades tougher in reality than on paper
due to key injuries last season affecting the records of this season’s opponents.
So it’s no wonder why Detroit’s season win total line isn’t higher.
