Denver Broncos 2013 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2013 Denver Broncos Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2013 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Denver Broncos set at 11.5 wins,
This number represents an increase of 3 wins from Denver’s
prior year regular season win total line of 8.5, which the Broncos blew
past en route to a (13-3) record…
And it’s also the highest win total line for any team in 2013.
Clearly this line is driven by
QB Peyton Manning, who last season
led the Broncos to a (13-3)
record against the league’s 2nd toughest schedule.
The Broncos finished with a positive net point differential of 192.
Now the Broncos add WR Wes Welker, G Louis Vasquez, CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie,
and rookie RB Montee Ball.
However, the defense is primed to take a major hit with the loss of
DE Elvis Dumervil, suspension of LB Von Miller,
and now injury to CB Champ Bailey.
To help mask the losses on defense, look for QB Peyton Manning
to make use of Welker on quick routes to help keep the clock
ticking, then milking the clock before snapping the ball to help minimize
the number of plays the defense will be on the field for… At least, that’s what we would
do.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2013 the Broncos go from having the league’s 2nd toughest schedule,
to having the easiest on paper.
First let’s look at their tough matchups.
We’ll start with teams that made the playoffs last season.
Overall the Broncos will suit up against returning playoff teams just 5 times,
as opposed to 7 in the previous season.
Fortunately for Denver, 4 of these 5 games take place after Von Miller’s suspension is over.
Other competitve matchups include;
@NY Giants in week 2 and @Dallas in week 5.
Possibly competitive matchups include; Philadelphia in week 4,
@San Diego in week 10, and @Kansas City in week 13, just because they’re
in division road games. These are
not the most feared of matchups by any means.
Lighter competition includes;
- Oakland in week 3
- Jacksonville in week 6
- Kansas City in week 11
- Tennessee in week 14
- San Diego in week 15
- @Oakland in week 17
Overall this has to be one of the easiest schedules I’ve seen for a
(13-3) team.
Are we the only ones thinking Manning could throw for 6,000 yards this season
in a league where cornerbacks are no longer allowed to play defense?
Record Projection:
In 2013 we project the Broncos to go (12-4), topping the Las
Vegas season win total of 11.5 games. This is a conservative prediction
with a lot of leeway in it.
Denver could lose to Baltimore, @New England, and @Houston. They could also win all three…
Perhaps they drop a road game in the division. Perhaps not.
Surely if the Broncos hadn’t lost Dumervil, and Miller wasn’t suspended,
they would be a strong candidate to go undefeated. And yet that possibility
still exists. Especially with the addition of Welker. The offense may simply be
unstoppable under current NFL rules.
Nonetheless, the defensive losses sting. And if the Broncos somehow miss topping 11.5 wins,
it will surely be due to the defensive side of the ball,
or an injury to Manning. And injuries are always a risk when playing season win totals.
