Dallas Cowboys 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Dallas Cowboys Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012
regular season win total line
for the Dallas Cowboys set at 8.5 wins.
This represents an increase of 1/2 win from the Cowboys’
prior year regular season mark of (8-8), a record we correctly prognosticated
in our ’11 Cowboys’ prediction.
However, 8.5 also represents a decrease of 1/2 win from last season’s
win total line… It seems oddsmakers
see the Cowboy window of opportunity as slipping.
As mentioned last season, the Dallas offensive line is no longer the dominating force
of recent years, and now there are questions at receiver with Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and
Jason Witten. None the less, the Cowboy defense should remain in the upper echelon of the NFC,
with room to improve thanks to a revamped secondary.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 Dallas will play 7 games versus teams that made the postseason last year.
This represents an increase of 2 such games compared to the previous season.
However, two of these contests come against an opponent that scored fewer points than they allowed last regular season–
that being the Super Bowl champ New York Giants– a team that knows how to turn it on in the playoffs.
On the down side, the Eagles who were without QB Vick for several contests last season,
arguably grade as a playoff caliber squad. The same can be said about last season’s Chicago Bears and
Jay Cutler… Therefore, in theory, the Cowboys are looking at three additional
games versus playoff caliber opponents.
That said, six of Dallas’ contests come versus teams with a season win total line of less than 8 wins,
including;
@Seattle in week 2, Tampa Bay in week 3, @Carolina in week 7, Cleveland in week 11, Washington in week 12,
and @Washington in week 17. Dallas should be able to take care of business in these contests.
For the Cowboys to make the playoffs, they’ll likely have to sweep Washington, which includes winning a cold
weather contest on the road in week 17, winning at least 5, or perhaps all 6 of these aforementioned
games versus lesser squads.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we now project the Cowboys to go (9-7), a slight downgrade from our opening
projection (due to receiver woes) but still topping the
Vegas season win total of 8.5 games, with the defense
leading the way.
