Dallas Cowboys 2008 NFL Projection:
The Cowboys have become a regular season dynamo. This team is so potent
they can
win if Romo throws five picks and fumbles once as exemplified by their amazing
come-from-behind win on Monday night football in week 5, 2007 in Buffalo.
Dallas even swept the Super Bowl champs, New York Giants, but then fell to the Giants in the divisional playoffs.
Now with the Giants’ loss of Osi Umenyiora combined with the retirement of Michael Strahan, Dallas shouldn’t
have as much trouble getting past the Giants if they should meet in the playoffs again.
Coming into 2008 you would need the world’s most powerful microscope to have a chance
of finding weakness on the Dallas Cowboys roster.
You can nitpick and say Romo is (0-2) in the playoffs, T.O. is another year older, or Terry Glenn is gone.
But the truth is Dallas’ offensive line is so stacked that when combined with Romo’s mobility, almost any
receiver good enough to make the NFL is going to have an opportunity to get open– whether its Crayton, Austin or Hurd.
On defense, Dallas’ linebacking group is tremendous, thanks to Ware and Ellis.
During the off-season, the unit picked up Zach Thomas.
In the secondary the additions of Jones and Jenkins are just what the doctor ordered. The Cowboys
should be able to improve their pass defense which ranked a respectable 13th last year.
Finally the addition of Tank Johnson to the defensive line now in his first full season with Dallas, could make the Cowboys equally as potent on defense as they
are on offense.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2008 Dallas will play half their games against teams that made the playoffs in 07, thanks to the
NFC East suiting up three playoff teams.
Record Projection:
In spite of their difficult schedule the Dallas Cowboys ought to outclass most of their opponents
just by showing up for the game. This is a highly talented team that can strike at any moment, and seemingly
surmount any in-game deficit.
Jerry Jones is ultra-serious about bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to Dallas–
as evidenced by key off-season pick-ups.
Overall we’re predicting a record of (13-3) for the 2008 Dallas Cowboys.
Significant injuries are probably
the only thing that can disrupt the Boys from earning another first-round playoff bye.
Finally, with the shocking season ending injury sustained by the New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora, Dallas should
be able to repeat as division champs as the Giants’ stock has taken a major hit.
