Cleveland Browns 2012 Season Win Total Outlook & Projection:
2012 Cleveland Browns Las Vegas Season Win Total Line;
As of this writing, oddsmakers have the 2012 NFL regular season
win total line
for the Cleveland Browns set at 5 wins.
This number represents a decrease of 1.5 wins from Cleveland’s
prior year regular season win total line of 6.5, which the Browns subsequently
went under, finishing with a record of (4-12).
While the Browns have a solid defense (that will unfortunately be without DT Phil Taylor
for at least the first 6 games), the offense is in major rebuild mode
with rookie QB Brandon Weeden set to start, plus top pick
RB Trent Richardson hoping to be ready for week 1.
While Cleveland has
two great OL in Joe Thomas and Alex Mack, they are otherwise thin in the unit,
which could make the Weeden’s introduction to the NFL on the shaky side.
Furthermore, in a passing league, the Browns are lacking star power at WR.
Perhaps Weeden can help to change that.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2012 the Browns find themselves with one of the toughest strengths of
schedules in the league with the combined winning
percentage of their opponents in the prior year checking in at the .527 mark.
In 2012 Cleveland will play 8 games versus playoff teams from a season ago. That’s an increase of
two such games against playoff caliber competition compared to the prior season.
As you can see, 4 of the first 6 games are against these teams, with three on the road–
which may serve
as a rude introduction for the Browns young offense.
Making matters worse, the other two games
in the first six are against teams we project to make the playoffs. Philadelphia in week 1,
a team which likely would have made the playoffs last season if not for injury to Vick.
And Buffalo in week 3 (improved defense with Mario Williams).
Further making the schedule tougher on paper are three additional games versus teams which most would agree
underperformed last
season; San Diego in week 8, @Dallas in week 11, and Kansas City in week 14.
Lighter competition in 2012 includes;
@Indianapolis in week 7, @Oakland in week 13, and Washington in week 15.
Record Projection:
In 2012 we project the Browns to go (4-12), a slight upgrade from our opening projection of 3 wins,
but still falling below the Las
Vegas season win total of 5 games.
While a season win odds of 5 are extremely low,
the Browns schedule appears too stiff for their talent level
to surpass the number.
