Carolina Panthers 2007 NFL Projection:
Carolina has been to the NFC Championship game in two of the last four seasons.
However, last season the Panthers only finished (8-8).
The disappointing record was mainly the result of the injury bug, most notably Steve Smith, Jake
Delhomme and Deshaun Foster on offense, and Mike Rucker and Dan Morgan on defense. The Panthers’ defense
still surrendered the second
fewest points in the NFC last season.
Take away any number of the above injuries and the Panthers could easily have
supplanted the N.Y. Giants in last season’s playoffs.
In 2007 the Panthers face a relatively light schedule with only five games against teams that
finished above .500 in 2006.
Considering the Panthers could have easily been (10-6) or better last season without the injuries, there’s
no reason to think Carolina can’t bounce back into the postseason in 2007.
Furthermore, we don’t think Jake Delhomme
should feel pressure to peek over his shoulder at
David Carr. If the offense struggles it will most likely be due to lack of depth at WR and RB, and a mediocre
offensive line, which should not be pinned on the QB.
Overall we’re predicting a record of (12-4) for the Carolina Panthers in 2007.
