Atlanta Falcons 2010 NFL Projection:
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Falcons (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
RB Michael Turner, WR Roddy White, TE Tony Gonzalez, DE John Abraham, MLB
Curtis Lofton, QB Matt Ryan, offensive line run blocking, RB depth (Jason Snelling, Jerious Norwood),
kickoff returns, punt returns, kickoff coverage, run defense.
Weaknesses:
Production from the second WR spot, punt coverage, pass defense.
Opportunities:
The return of RB Michael Turner (missed much of last season) could put the Falcons’
running game back on top.
CB Dunta Robinson could solidify the secondary.
WR Harry Douglas could add a new level of potency to the passing attack.
The return of DT Peria Jerry (missed last season with a torn ACL) could
improve the defensive line.
1st round draft pick LB Sean Weatherspoon from Missouri could dramatically
improve Atlanta’s linebacking core.
Threats:
Division rival New Orleans (winners of Super Bowl XLIV).
CB Dunta Robinson injury status (hamstring).
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Falcons will suit up 7 times versus teams that made the playoffs
a year ago;
Most of these contests are at home. However, outside of Arizona (who should be far less potent
without QB Kurt Warner who retired), the other home opponents in this category are quite strong.
Other competitive matchups include a trip to Pittsburgh in week 1 (although QB Ben Roethlisberger is suspended),
a home tilt with up and coming San Francisco in week 2, and the week 14 trip to division
rival Carolina which could be a defensive struggle… None the less, Atlanta also faces several weaker squads.
Their overall schedule grades as middle of the road.
Record Projection:
In 2010 we project the Falcons to go (10-6)
which may include a trip to the playoffs… This after we nailed last season’s projection of (9-7).
