Arizona Cardinals 2010 NFL Projection:
1-(8XX)-GET-BLEDSOE-OUT-OF-RETIREMENT
“SWOT analysis” of the 2010 Cardinals (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
WR Larry Fitzgerald, head coach Ken Whisenhunt, DE’s Darnell Dockett & Calais
Campbell, safety tandem of Adrian Wilson & Kerry Rhodes (acquired
in trade with Jets), CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie,
kickoff coverage, kickoff returns, Beanie Wells’ ability.
Weaknesses:
Derek Anderson’s accuracy, the running game, punt coverage, linebacking core.
Opportunities:
Solidify the defensive line (first round draft pick NT Dan Williams from Tennessee,
improve pass rush (OLB Joey Porter signed in free agency), improve run blocking (addition of LG Alan
Faneca to be paired with Levi Brown moving to LT), RB Beanie Wells break out potential,
rookie QB Max Hall has impressed in preseason.
Threats:
Loss of surefire hall of fame QB Kurt Warner to retirement, loss of OLB Karlos Dansby in free agency to Miami,
loss of WR Anquan Boldin to Baltimore in free agency,
loss of CB Bryant McFadden via trade to Pittsburgh, loss of safety Antrel Rolle to Giants in
free agency), Larry Fitzgerald’s sprained MCL, and a sharp looking San Francisco 49ers’ team.
Schedule Analysis:
A look at Arizona’s 2010 schedule
shows one of the easier slates thanks
to playing in the weakest division on paper (the NFC West).
The ‘Cards face off against just 4 playoff teams from a season ago as follows;
As far as difficult games go, one should include a trip to Atlanta in week 2, and contests with
division rival San Francisco weeks 12 & 17– as these squads are expected to be playoff
caliber.
Record Projection:
The Cardinals lost so much talent in the offseason as outlined above, although they
weren’t without additions. But the most important position of all, starting QB has certainly taken
a hit in the talent department which is likely to cost the Cardinals in 2010.
Overall we now project the Cardinals to go (7-9) in 2010,
a slight upgrade here in preseason (after an initial downgrade).
QB Matt Leinart has been released so the ‘Cards will roll with
Derek Anderson and Max Hall (who we like).
If the Cardinals can get their running game going
in the regular season, it would likely transform the team,
creating upside to this prediction.
