1/1
Giants
7-1
The defending champs delivered a huge blow to Dallas sinking the Romoless
Cowboys into last place… Meanwhile, the Giants’
victories over the Steelers and Redskins rank high.
2/2
Titans
8-0
The Titans remained perfect despite being outgained by Green Bay
in a victory at home in overtime.
3/8
Steelers
6-2
The Steelers grabbed a huge road win at Washington on Monday night
thanks in part to recording 7 sacks and blocking a punt near the end
of the first half.
Roethlisberger left the game, but Leftwich filled in
tremendously… As far as the power rankings go, nearly pulling off back to back victories
over the Redskins and the Giants allows the Steelers to pass
the Eagles in the rankings… Even though the Steelers previously lost in Philadelphia,
consider that the Redskins won in Philadelphia, and of course the Steelers just
won in Washington. And the wheel of the power rankings goes round.
4/3
Redskins
6-3
The Redskins fell at home to Pittsburgh on Monday night
and oddly have struggled in several games this season while
holding their opponents to low yardage numbers.
That said, road victories over Philadelphia and at
Dallas w/ Tony Romo rank highly. So do their wins over
Arizona and New Orleans.
5/4
Panthers
6-2
The Panthers had a bye and will get back to action
in week 10 at Oakland.
6/5
Cardinals
5-3
The Cardinals notched their 5th win of the season by scoring a key road victory in
St. Louis as Warner torched his old team. The win put Arizona in solid control of the NFC West… A loss would
have left the door wide open for the Rams.
7/7
Eagles
5-3
Philadelphia improved to two games above .500 with a win at Seattle.
If the Eagles are going to make the playoffs this season, then beating
the Giants at home this week may be a necessity.
8/6
Cowboys
5-4
The Cowboys simply couldn’t compete at Giants Stadium without their starting QB.
In order to make the playoffs, Dallas may need to win 6 of their final 7 games.
Of course, they have a pretty good winning percentage with Romo in the
regular season.
9/9
Buccaneers
6-3
Tampa Bay pulled off a dramatic come from behind win at Kansas City. A loss
would have done considerable damage to the Bucs’ playoff aspirations.
10/10

Bears
5-3
With Orton knocked out of the game with an injury, the Bears managed to come from behind to grab
the victory, surviving
23 second quarter points by the Lions.
A loss probably would have lead to serious playoff repercussions.
11/11
Falcons
5-3
The Falcons kept their winning ways going with a throttling of the Raiders
in Oakland, yielding just 77 yards of offense.
I’m not sure the Falcons can make the playoffs as their schedule really toughens
up. But it sure has been exciting to watch this bunch.
12/13
Packers
4-4
The Packers suffered a tough loss at Tennessee in overtime. The loss knocked Green Bay
back to .500. In order to make the playoffs the Packers probably are going to need a few road victories
in the second half of this season–
but Minnesota, New Orleans, and Chicago aren’t exactly easy places to win…
13/14
Colts
4-4
The Colts got back into the wild card hunt with a key victory at home over New England.
14/15
Ravens
5-3
The Ravens swept the Browns, and could arguably be (7-1)
if not for blown leads against
the Titans and Steelers– both of which were three point losses.
15/16
Vikings
4-4
Minnesota got back to .500 with a home win over the Texans…
The Vikings’ most important game to date is on deck in week 10
at home against Green Bay.
16/24
Jets
5-3
The power rankings didn’t approve of New York’s close call with KC last week…
But the ratings do approve of the Jets’ road win in Buffalo–
our money line underdog pick of the week. It paid +$190…
Here is a little power rankings conundrum…
The Jets won in Buffalo. New England beat the Jets on the road.
The Chargers crushed the Jets and crushed the Patriots.
The Bills beat the Chargers.
The Dolphins crushed the Patriots, beat the Bills, and beat the Chargers,
but lost at home to the Jets,
and got crushed by the Cardinals. But the Jets crushed the Cardinals.
And the Cardinals crushed the Bills.
17/18
Dolphins
4-4
Miami added another victim to their list of arguably overrated teams they have exposed this season…
A list that includes San Diego, Buffalo, New England, and now Denver.
Unfortunately Miami is still in last place… Their last second loss at Houston in week 6
is proving to be very costly.
18/12

Bills
5-3
Buffalo dropped a key game at home to the Jets. The loss could
be a playoff killer. In order to get back on the track for postseason
qualification the Bills probably need to win in New England this week.
19/17
Saints
4-4
The Saints had a bye and will get back to action in week 10 at Atlanta…
New Orleans needs a win against the Falcons just to get out of
sole possession of last place in the competitive NFC South.
20/19
Chargers
3-5
The Chargers had a much needed bye and will get back to action at home against
the Chiefs in week 10. Perhaps
LT will start running wild again like he did during the second half of last season.
21/21
Patriots
5-3
We’ve been down on New England because the two best teams they played coming into
week 9 were Miami and San Diego– both of which blew the Patriots out…
But in their Sunday night loss this week at Indianapolis, the Patriots finally
played a good game against a good team… That improvement couldn’t
come at a better time as Buffalo comes to town in week 10 with the AFC East on the line.
x/22
Browns
3-6
With Quinn at the helm Cleveland’s offense finally errupted, thanks in part
to facing the Broncos’ porous defense. Unfortunately, Cleveland’s
defense collapsed at the same time.
23/25
Rams
2-6
With their season on the line, the Rams couldn’t hang at home against Warner’s
Cardinals.
24/22
Jaguars
3-5
As if we needed anymore proof the Jags aren’t the team they were last season,
a week 9 loss to Cincinnati iced it.
x/25
Broncos
5-4
Denver stayed 1 game ahead of San Diego in the AFC West thanks to a furious
4th quarter comeback in Cleveland on the arm of Cutler.
26/26
Texans
3-5
The Texans were unable to get back to .500 on the road at Minnesota.
Season over?
27/27
Raiders
2-6
The Raiders posted a whopping 77 yards of offense at home against the Falcons.
Yikes.
28/30
Bengals
1-8
The Bengals finally earned their first victory of the season. All they have to do to
is win 7 more to finish at .500.
29/31
Chiefs
1-7
For the second week in a row the Chiefs let one get away– this time at home to Tampa Bay.
30/28
Seahawks
2-6
With Hasselbeck set to return next week, the Seahawks season for all intents and purposes
came to an end with a week 9 home loss to the Eagles.
31/29
49ers
2-6
San Francisco had a much needed bye after the team imploded at home against Seattle in week 8.
A trip to Arizona is on deck in week 10. A victory would be quite the upset at this stage.
32/32
Lions
0-8
The Lions almost got their first win of the season
but couldn’t hang on for an upset of division rival Chicago.
Perhaps next week against the stumbling Jaguars…
