Rank

NFL Team

Record

Comments November 4, 2009

1/1

Saints

7-0

The scoring machine known as the New Orleans Saints remained undefeated, topping the Falcons at home on Monday night. Mike Bell’s lack of situational awareness made the game even more interesting at the end.

2/6

Vikings

7-1

Favre threw 4 TD’s in his return to Lambeau, as the Vikings swept the Packers and took complete control of the NFC North.

3/2

Colts

  7-0

Wayne hauled in 12 passes and the Colts remained perfect, as Addai tossed the game winning score against a stingy, bend but don’t break 49ers’ defense.

4/3

Broncos

  6-1

Denver dropped their first contest of the season– a four score loss in Baltimore. The first half was close. And Denver’s defense played well, but they couldn’t get anything going offensively… Pittsburgh one deck. Even if the Broncos drop this game too, they’re looking good to take the AFC West. Wins over the Patriots, Cowboys, and Bengals keep the Broncos cemented in the top 5 for now.

5/5

Bengals

5-2

Cincinnati had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 against Baltimore… Wins over the Steelers, Ravens, Bears, and Packers have the Bengals sitting at number 5 for now.

6/4

Steelers

  5-2

Pittsburgh had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 at Denver. So much is on the line in this game including playoff positioning, and power ranking positioning.

7/7

Patriots

  5-2

New England had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 versus the up and down Dolphins.

8/9

Ravens

  4-3

Baltimore scored a huge victory over the previously undefeated Broncos. Their defense was stellar. And they proved they’re a much better team than indicated by their record. They’re just a few plays away from being undefeated… Baltimore was our free pick of the week.

9/10

Cowboys

  5-2

Dallas improved to (5-2) with a home stomping of the Seahawks. Looking back at the Cowboys’ two losses, one can see they just as easily could be (7-0). Although they were fortunate to escape K.C. with a win in week 5. None the less, Dallas appears on course to make the playoffs.

10/12

Falcons

4-3

Ryan tossed 3 interceptions in New Orleans on Monday night… That’s too many turnovers to come back from against the Saints.

11/17

Eagles

5-2

The Eagles’ youth proved too speedy for the Giants in an eye opening blowout victory. Up next a Dallas team firing on all cylinders.

12/11

Cardinals

4-3

After getting “the East coast monkey” off their back in week 7, the Cardinals were ripe for the picking in week 8. And who better than Carolina? The team Arizona upset in the Divisional Playoffs last season. Carolina was our money line underdog of the week. They paid +$400. It was ironic that Arizona was a 10 point favorite, and Warner tossed 5 interceptions in the loss. Whereas in last season’s playoff game, Carolina was a 10 point favorite, and Delhomme tossed 5 interceptions in the loss. If you’ve never heard the theme to the original Twilight Zone series, now might be a good time to check it out on YouTube.

13/8

Giants

  5-3

The Giants couldn’t handle the speed of the Eagles’ young stars. And before they knew what hit them, were down 23 at the half… With a very tough second half schedule, the Giants are running out of leeway, and can ill afford to lose to the Chargers next week.

14/14

Packers

4-3

Despite a solid game from Aaron Rodgers, the Packers just ran into a better team at home against the Vikings. At this point, Green Bay appears to be playoff bubble material.

15/15

Bears

4-3

The Bears forced 5 turnovers against Cleveland in a route at home… Although I’m left pondering how close this game might have been without all the fumbles and interceptions.

16/19

Dolphins

  3-4

In a season full of games Miami lost but should have won, the Dolphins got a little payback. Miami’s offense couldn’t do anything against the Jets. But a Jason Taylor 48 yard fumble return, and 2 Ted Ginn kickoff returns for TD’s, all in the 3rd quarter, lead the Dolphins to victory in a game they seemed to have no business winning.

17/13

Jets

4-4

The Jets’ playoff aspirations took a major hit as the Dolphins erupted for three non-offensive touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, which proved too much to come back from.

18/18

Texans

5-3

Playing in place of Slaton (benched), Ryan Moats rushed for three scores in the 4th quarter at Buffalo in what was a bitter sweet victory as Owen Daniels tore his right ACL and is done for the year.

19/16

Chargers

4-3

The Chargers got back above .500 with a victory over the Raiders in a game that was closer than one would like to see. San Diego has two wins against Oakland, one win against the Chiefs, and one win against Miami (a game in my opinion they were lucky to win). Can you see where I’m going? At any rate, Malcom Floyd in. Chris Chambers released.

20/21

49ers

3-4

San Francisco dropped a game they lead most of the way at Indianapolis. They join a long list of teams over the years bitten by the Colts in the fourth quarter… Although usually it’s Manning throwing the game winning TD, not Addai. At any rate, this is what we refer to as a “quality loss” in the power rankings business. But there’s not much room to rise this week.

21/20

Bills

3-5

The Bills suffered another 4th quarter meltdown, this time allowing Houston’s Ryan Moats to rush for 3 touchdowns in the game’s final quarter. I think we can officially stick a fork in ’em. Playoffs are gone for yet another year, Consider– if the Bills were to miraculously roll off 5 straight wins from here, they would be (8-5) but with the Patriots, Falcons, and Colts on deck in weeks 15, 16, and 17. See what I’m saying?

22/24

Panthers

  3-4

Williams and Stewart had banner days as Carolina got revenge for last season’s Divisional playoff loss to Arizona. The Panthers were our money line underdog of the week. They paid +$400. It was ironic that Carolina was a 10 point favorite in last season’s playoff game, and Delhomme threw 5 interceptions in the loss. Whereas in this game, the Cardinals were a 10 point favorite, and Warner threw 5 interceptions in the loss. Can you say, “Twilight Zone?”

23/22

Seahawks

  2-5

Seattle ran into a far superior team in Dallas. All signs are pointing to a sub .500 season.

24/23

Jaguars

  3-4

Maurice Jones-Drew ran wild, but it wasn’t enough as Jacksonville lost by 17 points to the previously winless Titans, now headed by Vince Young… At (3-4) it appears the Jags have little to no shot at the post season. As we’ve pointed out on numerous occasions over the past season and a half, the Jaguars don’t have the defense they once possessed.

25/25

Raiders

2-6

The Raiders dropped their sixth game of the season, falling at San Diego. However, it was refreshing to see Oakland lose by just one score… Make that 1 score and a 2 point conversion.

26/27

Titans

1-6

In Vince Young’s return as a starter, Chris Johnson ran wild– going for 228 yards and two scores, as the Titans grabbed their first win of the season… A thumping of Jacksonville.

27/28

Chiefs

1-6

Kansas City had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 at Jacksonville. I don’t know what else to say, which is designed to speak volumes in itself.

28/29

Redskins

  2-5

Washington had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 at Atlanta. I really don’t know what else to say, which is intended to speak volumes in itself… Is there a bit of an echo in here?

29/31

Rams

1-7

Steven Jackson rushed for 149 yards and 1 TD in Detroit as the Rams grabbed their first win of the season… Doubling that number could prove quite a challenge. Perhaps week 12 at home versus Seattle will be their best chance.

30/26

Lions

1-6

The Lions excelled in the ineptitude department, dropping a home game to the Rams. To be fair, Mega was out again.

31/30

Browns

1-7

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… In a league where CB’s can’t even look at a WR from a certain angle without getting flagged, and other quarterbacks are throwing for 2, 3, heck sometimes 6 TD’s in a single quarter, the Browns are lucky to complete 6 passes in a game. Chalk up another big loss for the Browns– this time at Chicago.

32/32

Buccaneers

0-7

Tampa Bay had a bye and will get back to action in week 9 versus Green Bay. All signs still point to a winless season.
