Rank

NFL Team

Record

Comments January 9, 2010

1/1

Colts

  14-2

The Colts enter the playoffs as the AFC’s top seed. Indianapolis went (3-1) against teams headed to the postseason, including their historical mail-in versus the Jets.

2/2

Chargers

13-3

This Chargers team is so hot, they even win when they’re supposed to be mailing it in– as witnessed by their late comeback over Washington… San Diego enters the playoffs as the AFC’s number two seed. Overall the Chargers went (3-1) against teams headed to the playoffs.

3/3

Saints

13-3

The Saints mailed in their final regular season game at Carolina. But you gotta wonder if they could have really won @ Carolina the way these Panthers are playing? At any rate, the Saints enter the postseason as the NFC’s top seed. New Orleans went (3-1) against teams headed to the playoffs.

4/5

Vikings

12-4

The Vikings “tuned up” against the Giants in week 17. And enter the playoffs as the NFC’s number two seed. Minnesota went (4-1) against teams headed to the playoffs.

5/8

Cowboys

  11-5

Dallas shut out the Eagles, completing a sweep of Philadelphia. And will host the Eagles in the wild card round. It was Dallas’ second shutout in a row (Washington). Dallas went (3-2) against teams headed to the playoffs.

6/6

Bengals

10-6

Cincinnati mailed it in against the Jets in week 17, and will host the Jets in the wild card round. The Bengals went (3-3) against teams headed to the playoffs.

7/7

Packers

11-5

The Packers rolled the “laying down” Cardinals. And will head to Arizona for the second week in a row for a wild card matchup. The Packers went (3-3) against teams headed to the playoffs.

8/4

Eagles

11-5

The Eagles were shutout in Dallas. And will head to Dallas for a wild card matchup. Philadelphia went (0-4) against teams headed to the playoffs. Yikes!

9/9

Cardinals

10-6

The Cards laid down versus Green Bay. And will host the Packers in the wild card round. Arizona went (1-2) against teams headed to the playoffs.

10/10

Patriots

  10-6

The Patriots went for the win in Houston, suffering a loss in the standings, and the loss of their top receiver Wes Welker. The Patriots will host Baltimore in the wild card round. New England went (2-3) against teams headed to the playoffs.

11/11

Ravens

  9-7

The Ravens earned a wild card spot with their win at Oakland, and will head to New England for postseason play. Baltimore went (1-6) against teams headed to the playoffs. They certainly have a lot of experience playing top teams.

12/14

Jets

9-7

The Jets toppled the “laying down” Bengals to earn a postseason berth. They’ll head to Cincinnati for a wild card game this Saturday. The Jets went (3-2) against teams headed to the playoffs– as questionable as their last two wins might be.

13/12

Steelers

  9-7

The Steelers fell short of the postseason as they topped the Dolphins in Miami.

14/18

Texans

9-7

Houston topped New England in week 17, but fell short of the postseason. This team had their chances in 2009.

15/13

Dolphins

  7-9

The Dolphins fell at home to the Steelers in week 17 in a season full of blown opportunities.

16/17

Panthers

  8-8

Carolina finished the season strong. Things are looking up for next season with Moore at the helm.

17/15

Broncos

  8-8

Once considered a shoe in for the postseason, ’twas quite a collapse these Broncos suffered in 2009.

18/16

Falcons

9-7

The Falcons put together back to back winning seasons for the first time, but fell short of the postseason.

19/20

Titans

8-8

After starting dismally, the Titans put together a memorable run behind Vince Young en route to a thrilling .500 season.

20/19

Giants

  8-8

The Giants were routed yet again, this time at Minnesota.

21/22

49ers

8-8

The 49ers finished the season on a high note, hitting the .500 mark, and topping our season record prediction by one game with their week 17 victory over the Rams.

22/23

Bears

7-9

The Bears took care of business on the road in Detroit for win number seven… Certainly several wins less than most expected coming into the season with Cutler at the helm.

23/21

Jaguars

  7-9

The Jaguars were in the playoff hunt near the end of the season, but managed to finish below .500.

24/25

Browns

5-11

Cleveland picked up another win, as they topped the Jaguars, saving Mangini’s job. The Browns were rushing beasts in the final quarter of the season. Firing Mangini after that simply wouldn’t have been right.

25/24

Raiders

5-11

The Raiders pulled off some nice upsets this season, but still managed double digit losses.

26/27

Bills

6-10

Ryan Fitzpatrick lead the Bills to victory over a Colts team mailing it in, helping Buffalo en route to a (2-4) record against teams headed to the playoffs in a season full of 4th quarter collapses… Is Bill Cowher on the way?

27/26

Buccaneers

3-13

Tampa picked up their thirteenth loss of the season, falling at home to Atlanta, and topping our season projection by one game.

28/28

Redskins

  4-12

Jim Zorn gone. I can’t believe it! Mike Shanahan in. I can believe that!

29/29

Seahawks

  5-11

Mora canned on the heels of a (5-11) season; as if the Seahawks’ woes were the fault of the coach, and somehow another coach would have done materially better with this group? I doubt it. None the less, Pete Carroll is rumored to be on board, returning to the NFL (formerly New England). Could he reunite with his former QB Drew Bledsoe? Seattle would be the perfect place. C’mon, look at the trend of aged quarterbacks left for done who’ve been tearing up the NFL in their golden years. Bledsoe is younger than Warner and Favre.

30/30

Chiefs

4-12

Charlie Weis in as the new offensive coordinator. Something to look forward to for sure.

31/31

Rams

1-15

Sadly, the Rams hit our record prediction from preseason of a (1-15) season.

32/32

Lions

2-14

The Lions followed up their winless season with a (2-14) performance. I don’t see how we can move them up.
