Comments December 26, 2006

1 (1)

Chargers

13-2

The Chargers took another step closer to securing home field throughout the playoffs with a road win in Seattle.

2 (2)

Bears

13-2

With home field already wrapped up throughout the playoffs the Bears came from behind in Detroit to win a game they technically didn’t need.

3 (3)

Ravens

  12-3

The Ravens moved a step closer to securing a 1st round bye in grabbing their 12th win of the season with a road victory in Pittsburgh.

4 (4)

Colts

  11-4

The Colts were run over by Ron Dayne, losing in Houston. Even worse, 1st round bye chances may have been waved bye-bye to.

5 (5)

Patriots

  11-4

The Patriots clinched the AFC East by notching their 11th win of the season, a road victory in Jacksonville.

6 (6)

Saints

10-5

New Orleans took another step closer to grabbing the remaining 1st round playoff bye thanks to a huge road win against the Giants.

7 (11)

Eagles

9-6

Philadelphia clinched a playoff berth with a win in Dallas, posting a sweep of the cowboys, and moving into 1st place.

8 (14)

Broncos

  9-6

The Broncos stayed ahead of the pack for wild card contention with a home win over Cincinnati which was made easier by a botched extra point.

9 (7)

Cowboys

  9-6

Dallas was blown out at home by Philadelphia, resulting in a sweep by the Eagles, and loss of sole possession of 1st place.

10 (10)

Titans

8-7

The Titans improved their winning streak to 6 games. Even though Tennessee beat Philadelphia, the Titans were demolished by the Cowboys, and the Eagles swept the Cowboys, and that’s the logic for the Eagles currently possessing a higher power ranking.

11 (8)

Jaguars

  8-7

If the Jaguars ever needed their strong home field advantage to show up it was week 16 versus New England. But the Patriots were just a bit too much to handle, and Jacksonville’s playoff hopes took another hit.

12 (9)

Bengals

8-7

Cincinnati’s playoff hopes took a hit in a heartbreaking loss in Denver thanks in part to a botched extra point. Of course even if the Bengals had made the extra point there’s no guarantee they would have won the game.

13 (12)

Jets

9-6

The Jets won in Miami getting 1 step closer to the playoffs.

14 (19)

Chiefs

8-7

The Chiefs stayed in playoff contention with a win in Oakland.

15 (13)

Seahawks

  8-7

The Seahawks dropped their 3rd straight game but clinched the division title thanks to San Francisco’s loss at home to Arizona.

16 (15)

Giants

  7-8

The Giants were crushed at home by the Saints, but are still alive for the playoffs.

17 (22)

Panthers

  7-8

Carolina stayed in the playoff hunt with an improbable win in Atlanta as Weinke threw for just 32 yards.

18 (16)

Falcons

7-8

The Falcons held Carolina’s Weinke to just 32 yards passing, but were unable to get the win at home, putting a huge hit on Atlanta’s playoff chances.

19 (23)

Rams

7-8

The Rams kept their playoff hopes alive with an overtime win over Washington.

20 (17)

Steelers

  7-8

The Steelers were eliminated from playoff contention in a home loss to the Ravens.

21 (18)

Bills

7-8

Buffalo was eliminated from playoff contention by the Titans and by one stiff wind that prevented them from attempting a field goal.

22 (20)

Dolphins

  6-9

The Dolphins fell at home to the Jets and will finish below the .500 mark.

23 (21)

Redskins

  5-10

Washington lost a heartbreaker in overtime in St. Louis. Although When you’re 5-10 your heart is already broken.

24 (24)

Packers

7-8

The Packers kept their playoff hopes alive with a last second win over the Vikings at Lambeau.

25 (27)

Texans

5-10

It’s hard to believe a team that went 3-1 against Indianapolis & Jacksonville is actually 5-10, with 6 of their losses by double digits. Then again, it’s even harder to believe a team that’s 5-10 went 3-1 against the Colts & Jaguars.

26 (25)

49ers

6-9

San Francisco was knocked out of the playoff hunt by Arizona. In fact, the 49ers were swept by the Cardinals for the 2nd straight season, but stay ahead of the Cardinals in the power rankings due to a sweeping of the Seahawks.

27 (26)

Vikings

6-9

Minnesota fell to 3 games below .500, losing in Green Bay… A far cry from the Vikings’ top 10 power ranking back in October.

28 (29)

Cardinals

5-10

The Cardinals grabbed a road win in San Francisco to sweep the 49ers for the 2nd straight year. More importantly the Cardinals knocked the 49ers out of the playoff hunt.

29 (30)

Buccaneers

4-11

The Buccaneers got their 1st road win in more than a season emerging victorious in Cleveland. Of course, that could hurt come draft day.

30 (28)

Browns

4-11

The Browns suffered their 11th loss, falling at home to the Buccaneers who hadn’t won on the road in more than a season.

31 (31)

Lions

2-13

The Lions almost held on for an upset of the Bears, but from the perspective of next year’s draft it was probably better that they didn’t.

32 (32)

Raiders

2-13

Another week, another double digit loss. That makes 8 losses on the season by double digits as the Raiders fell at home to the Chiefs.
