Seattle Seahawks 2008 NFL Projection:
Last season the Seahawks
fell in the divisional playoff round at Green Bay.
Including their wild card playoff win over the Redskins, the Seahawks went
(2-2) against playoff teams overall, including a win over the Buccaneers and a shutout defeat at the hands of the Steelers.
With the weakness in the NFC West, Seattle hasn't been getting a lot of regular season action against other
top teams.
Coming into 2008 everyone knows the story.
Julius Jones is in at running back. Wide receiver Hackett is gone, Engram is hurt,
and Branch won't be back in time for the start of the season.
So why aren't the Seahawks making a move to get receiver help?
Our theory is two of their first three games are home against the 49ers and Rams.
Perhaps the Seattle brass figures they'll win those games anyway.
Then their bye takes place in week 4... By week 5 both players surely ought to be back in action
to face the champs on the road-- as Seattle's schedule toughens up for a three game stretch that also includes
the Packers and a trip to Tampa.
Moving on to Seattle's offensive line, it's no longer one of the leagues top units. But it's certainly strong enough
to handle the defensive lines of division rivals, St. Louis, San Francisco, and Arizona.
Seattle finds themselves in a similar situation on their defensive line.
They can put pressure on the QB's in their own division. But will they be able to do so against the NFL's
elite
offensive lines this season such as Dallas, NY Giants, and New England?
The Seahawks' starting linebackers are a solid group with Peterson and Tatupu,
as is their secondary headed by Marcus Trufant.
Seattle's kicking game is likely to take a hit with the departure of Josh Brown to
St. Louis.
Schedule Analysis:
Seattle will play 6 games versus teams that made the playoffs in 07.
We also project playoff caliber competition at home in weeks 9 & 16 from the Eagles and Jets.
Overall, Seattle's schedule appears much tougher than last year's slate of games.
Record Projection:
On paper the Seahawks appear to face little competition from division rivals.
But with a schedule that's tougher compared to last year, and injuries at receiver, the Seahawks
might struggle to top double digit wins. None the less, Seattle should have little problem
taking the division as long as they remain injury-free.
Overall we predict a (9-7) first place finish for the Seahawks in 2008.
