San Diego Chargers 2010 NFL Projection:
"SWOT analysis" of the 2010 Chargers (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
QB Philip Rivers, TE Antonio Gates, offensive line's pass blocking,
LT Marcus McNeill (hold out), LG Kris Dielman,
C Nick Hardwick, Louis Vasquez, OL depth (T Brandyn Dombrowski,
C Scott Mruczkowski), CB Quentin Jammer, OLB Shaun Phillips,
RB Darren Sproles' quick burst,
QB depth (Billy Volek).
Weaknesses:
RB experience, punt coverage, offensive line's run blocking,
NT experience.
Opportunities:
Rookie RB Ryan Mathews could help to resurrect a formidable rushing game in San Diego
not seen since departed LT was younger/healthier...
T Brandyn Dombrowski could do an admirable job of replacing Marcus McNeill.
WR Malcom Floyd looks to replace WR Vincent Jackson. He has Rivers' confidence.
Can Larry English pick up where OLB Shawne Merriman appears to have left off?
Can CB Antoine Cason fill Cromartie's shoes? We think so...
Division rival weakness
(Kansas City Chiefs,
Oakland Raiders,
Denver Broncos).
Threats:
Contract troubles with WR Vincent Jackson & LT Marcus McNeill.
Loss of CB Antonio Cromartie, loss of NT Jamal Williams.
Plethora of potentially playoff caliber teams
in the AFC heading into the '10 season
including
the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens,
Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh
Steelers, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 the Bolts will play just 4 games against teams making the postseason
in the last campaign;
Given the state of Arizona's offense without Kurt Warner, and New England's sudden
preseason defensive woes, the Chargers could get more competition from
some of the non-playoff teams they'll line up against including;
The Chargers potentially could get tough contests out of road trips to division rivals Denver & Oakland...
None the less, the '10 schedule is as easy as it gets on paper.
Record Projection:
In 2010 we project the Chargers to go (11-5). This squad should cruise through the regular
season in spite of contract troubles with WR Vincent Jackson & LT Marcus McNeill--
thanks in part to an easy schedule and having several talented players ready to fill the roles
of those departed and those holding out.
