2006 NFL Projection:
For a team that won the Super Bowl last season, the 2006
schedule for the Pittsburgh Steelers could have been tougher. For
starters, having two 6-10 finishers in the division always helps.
And thanks to winning the Super Bowl as a wild card team, the Steelers
draw Miami and Jacksonville instead of New England and Indianapolis.
That being said, Miami with Culpepper, and the tough Jaguars are
not easy opponents by any stretch of the imagination. But if Roethlisberger
returns from his motorcycle accident near the same playing level
he exhibited in his first two seasons, the Steelers should find
themselves with a good chance to retake the AFC North thanks to
Cincinnati drawing the slightly tougher first place schedule, and
thanks to the Steelers having a defense that surrendered 92 fewer
points than that of the Bengals in 2005.
In summary, whether it's
by wild card or division title, the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers should
be considered one of six teams with a good chance to represent the
AFC in this season's Super Bowl as long as Roethlisberger
retains his form.

Win Projected - Defending the title in the
Thursday night NFL opener versus a strong 2005 finisher that
has added Dante Culpepper at quarterback may not be the easiest
way to start the 2006 season. Especially with Roethlisberger
out for the game. But the Steelers have a top notch defense
that could make the difference.
Loss Projected - Every team wants to bring
their A game when the champs roll into town, especially on Monday
night football. Some teams are more likely to deliver than others.
Although the Steelers catch a bit of a break as the kickoff
temperature in Jacksonville shouldn't be as high in a
night game.
Win Projected - The Bengals want revenge,
and the Steelers are on a short week. But revenge might have
to wait until the final game of the regular season as Pittsburgh
surrendered nearly 100 fewer points on defense compared to Cincinnati
in 2005. Meanwhile the Steelers are also looking to avenge a
home loss to last season's Bengals, and will be bringing
a maximum effort before the bye week.
Week 4
Oct 1
BYE
2-1 at they bye if these preseason predictions
for the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers prove accurate.
Win Projected - Will the Chargers offense
pick up with Rivers where it left off with Brees in this Sunday
night football matchup? One thing is certain… The Steelers
can bring it on the road. The Chargers found that out last season,
and they could find out again.
Loss Projected - Lost there last season with
Tommy Maddux at the helm. The Ravens will bring their all for
this one again, but this time will find Big Ben at the helm…
But the Steelers will find McNair at the helm, not Boller. Won't
be an easy game.
Loss Projected - Another top team that will
be ready to play the champs. However, the Panthers won't
have the late Summer / early Autumn heat on their side. That's
a big plus for the odds of the Steelers winning this game, but
it might not be enough to get the win at Bank of America Stadium.
Loss Projected - Likely to have playoff implications.
A revenge spot for the Bengals who may give their all for this
game whether it means qualifying for the playoffs or not.
