Kansas City Chiefs 2008 NFL Projection:
When you trade a 26 year old star averaging approximately 11 sacks per season who's coming off a 15 1/2 sack year while playing just 14 games,
it speaks volumes about how you view your own squad's prospects in the upcoming season.
The chiefs had a big draft day thanks to the Jared Allen trade. But relying on so many rookies at once isn't likely to reverse last season's fortunes
overnight
in the running game offensively (ranked
32nd last season) or defensively (ranked 28th last season).
As a result, expect a ripple effect as the troubles spread to QB
Brodie Croyle who is likely to struggle as there is only so much a QB can do when there's little to show from the running game, not to mention
poor pass protection. Dwayne Bowe offers a glimmer of hope for the offense, but the Chiefs lack depth at the wide receiver position so
Bowe is sure to face many double teams.
Schedule Analysis:
A look at Kansas City's 2008 schedule
shows just five games versus teams that made the playoffs last season;
The light schedule is certainly welcome, partially aided by the AFC West placing just 1 team into last season's playoffs (the Chargers).
Record Projection:
Last season the Chiefs nose dived. And clearly the team is in a rebuilding mode.
When combining the Chief's offensive line woes with the trading of a whopping 15 1/2 sacks, it's not easy to find a lot of wins
on KC's schedule.
While it will be exciting for Chiefs' fans to track so many highly graded rookies, overall
we're predicting a record of (2-14) as brighter days appear to be a vision of the future. Certainly if the Chiefs hit on their draft
picks, they could become
a monster in a few short years.
