Jacksonville Jaguars 2007 NFL Projection:
In 2007 the Jacksonville Jaguars should easily surpass last season's disappointing (8-8) record, which had its share
of impressive wins, and embarrassing losses.
In our opinion the Jaguars wouldn't have lost games in the second
half of the season to Houston, Buffalo, or Tennessee if Byron Leftwich hadn't been sidelined with an injury.
Now in sudden and shocking news, the Jags have decided to part ways with Leftwich, and go with Garrard.
We think it's a mistake as Jacksonville's record with Leftwich (not including his first season) has been tremendous,
with the small number of losses mostly coming against top teams such as the Colts, Steelers, Chargers, and Broncos!
Unbelievable.
This move resembles two other QB moves we completely disagreed with; the Broncos going with
Jay Cutler over Jake Plummer, and the
Cowboys going with Tony Romo over Drew Bledsoe.
Much of the public agreed with these moves as few people take the time
to consider the difficult strength of schedule these quarterbacks had to play against prior to getting benched,
not to mention the easy strength of schedule their replacements were the beneficiaries of after taking over.
There's a lot of ignored mathematics in the NFL.
Still, with one of the leagues top notch defenses and a terrific duo of running backs, the Jaguars are the kind of
team that can potenially win most games on their schedule, even with what we view as a downgrade
at quarterback... And make no mistake about it, there are plenty
of tough games on the Jaguars' 2007 schedule including;
We feel the Jaguars are still solid enough to go (3-5) in the eight tough games listed above.
That leaves a
remaining schedule consisting of 8 very winnable games. We feel the Jaguars are good enough to possibly go
(8-0) in those games for a projected finish of (11-5) and
first place in the AFC South. But any slip up against lesser opponenets- such as what ocurred in 2006, and the
Jags may find themselves wishing they still had Leftwich.
