2006 NFL Projection:
Palmer looks to get back on track with the Bengals high
powered offense after a most untimely injury. The Bengals may find
the going not so easy in 2006 with a schedule that includes seven
games versus teams that accomplished one or more of the following
feats in at least one of the most recent 3 seasons; won the
Super Bowl, played in the Super Bowl, or played in the
conference championship game. That translates to the following games...
As a result, qualifying for the playoffs in 2006
could be on the difficult side, even for this 2005 breakout team.
If the defense can give up substantially fewer points compared to
last season, then the Bengals should surely stay above the bubble and make
the playoffs again in 2006.

Cincinnati Bengals 2006 NFL Predictions
|
Week 1 |
Sep 10 |
@Kansas City |
Loss Projected - Would be a solid win for
either team. While many eyes will be on Palmer, the Chiefs ground
game could be too much for a defense that surrendered 350 points
in 2005. |
Week 2 |
Sep 17 |
Cleveland |
Win Projected - An absolute must win game.
Imagine starting the season 0-2 with the next five games coming
against the Steelers, the Patriots, the Buccaneers, the Panthers,
and the Falcons in what amounts to one of the toughest five
game stretches any team in the league will face in 2006...
Would it be out of the realm of possibility for the Bengals
to lose all of these games? Would it be out of the realm of
possibility for the Bengals to win all five? The defense needs
to step up. |
Week 3 |
Sep 24 |
@Pittsburgh |
Loss Projected - An attempt at early season
revenge for last season's playoff loss and untimely injury
to their star quarterback. However, revenge may have to wait
until later in the season home at Paul Brown stadium as the
Steelers should be well positioned to bring a maximum effort
of their own with their bye on deck. |
Week 4 |
Oct 1 |
New England |
Win Projected - Will likely need the
classic all out effort before the bye Week to come away with
a victory versus the Patriots. |
Week 5 |
Oct 8 |
BYE |
2-2 at the bye if these preseason predictions
for the 2006 Cincinnati Bengals hold up. The record could be
acceptable considering three of the first four games are @Kansas
City, @Pittsburgh, and home to New England. |
Week 6 |
Oct 15 |
@Tampa Bay |
Loss Projected - Can't afford to be
rusty after the bye when heading down to hot Florida to face
the Buccaneers. |
Week 7 |
Oct 22 |
Carolina |
Win Projected - Fourth top team in a row.
Might need to win just to attain .500. |
Week 8 |
Oct 29 |
Atlanta |
Win Projected - A must win game. Catching
a dome team out of their element should help. |
Week 9 |
Nov 5 |
@Baltimore |
Loss Projected - Another sweep of the Ravens
may be necessary to make the playoffs in 2006. But this season
the Ravens will be sporting Steve McNair at QB. |
Week 10 |
Nov 12 |
San Diego |
Win Projected - How will the Chargers fair
with a new starting quarterback at the helm? Maybe just as well?
Maybe not as well? Perhaps better? This preseason prediction
leans to the home team as it is unknown whether the "Rivers"
will flow. |
Week 11 |
Nov 19 |
@New Orleans |
Win Projected - In the middle of a stretch
of winnable games. And facing another team with a new starting
QB. The Saints offense could be jelling at this point under
Brees making this game no easy pickings. Possible game headline:
The battle of the quick healers. |
Week 12 |
Nov 26 |
@Cleveland |
Win Projected - Sweeping the Browns is likely
to be a must with this tough schedule. |
Week 13 |
Nov 30 |
Baltimore |
Win Projected - Thursday night football matchup
could find the Bengals playing for a split. |
Week 14 |
Dec 10 |
Oakland |
Win Projected - Remember the early season
must win game in week 2 versus the Browns? Look ahead to the
final three games on the schedule. It would be a waste of time
to try to convince anyone who follows the NFL that this won't
be a must win game for the Bengals. |
Week 15 |
Dec 18 |
@Indianapolis |
Loss Projected - Last year's meeting
was a fest of offense. This Monday night football matchup should
be a repeat performance with a playoff spot on the line to boot. |
Week 16 |
Dec 24 |
@Denver |
Loss Projected - If these preseason predictions
hold up, standing at 9-5 means the Bengals may need to win the
final two. Unfortunately, winning in Denver on a short week
is one of the tougher things to do in the NFL. |
Week 17 |
Dec 31 |
Pittsburgh |
Win Projected - Even if no postseason trip
is ahead, revenge would still be sweet. |
