Review Past Season Predictions For The Cincinnati Bengals | 2006

Cincinnati Bengals 2007 NFL Projection:
Last season while everyone and their brother was picking the Bengals to make the playoffs, we cautioned that Cincinnati's strength of schedule was so tough, that the postseason might not be in the cards.

In 2007 we're predicting a (10-6) record for the Bengals.

So, what's bad about a (10-6) prediction in 2007?

It may not be good enough to make the playoffs in the AFC. And it certainly wouldn't be the first time in the AFC either.

In 2007 the Bengals will play six games versus teams that made the playoffs in 2006. Now that may not seem so bad, but consider that five of these difficult contest come in the first six games on the Bengals' schedule as follows;

Throw in the fact that this stretch of games is immediately followed by a game versus the Steelers, and then a trip to Baltimore two weeks later, and you can see how imperative it is that the Bengals come out smoking in 2007, to avoid digging too deep of a hole in the record department before the schedule turns to melted butter in the second half of the season. It's a real Jekyll and Hyde schedule for the Bengals this season.

One other point is that if you throw in the game at Miami week 17, then the Bengals will play 5 contests against teams that surrendered less than 300 points last season (Baltimore twice of course). And for the record there's only six teams that fall into that category; New England, N.Y. Jets, Baltimore, Miami, Jacksonville, and Chicago. As you can see, most of them are in the defensively tough AFC.

Don't get us wrong. We think the Bengals are a tough team to beat on any given Sunday, and they should get their fair share in wins in 2007. But even with a predicted record of (10-6) it may not be enough to make the playoffs in 2007.

On the other hand, if the Bengals's secondary can step up in 2007, that could put the team over the top and into the playoffs.
