Chicago Bears 2007 NFL Projection:
Coming into last season we noted the weakness of the competing NFC North
teams, citing the combined
18-30 record between the Vikings, Lions, and Packers in 2005. Once again, coming into 2007 we can
cite this weakness as the Vikings, Lions, and Packers went an even worse 17-31 in 2006. Conclusion?
NFL odds makers
have Chicago as monster favorites to take the NFC North,
and most would agree these Bears should take the division with their eyes closed
regardless of how many games Rex Grossman's quarterback
rating is below 40.
Meanwhile, the Bears released Tank Johnson and traded Thomas Jones.
But the Bears also get back Tommie Harris and
Mike Brown, while adding TE Greg Olson in the draft.
Also of note, the Bears have converted Hester from CB to WR.
While the Bears do play a tougher overall schedule compared to last season's, set to play seven games versus teams that
made the playoffs in 2006, as mentioned above this Chicago team should have no trouble taking the division.
The question is, how far can the Bears go in the playoffs?
Back to the Super Bowl? And if so, can they win it? In our opinion, the Bears could have
beat the Colts last season
if they had been playing with any of a number of different quarterbacks at the helm...
One of which is currently
unsigned by any team (recently retired) Drew Bledsoe, an excellent bad weather quarterback who racked up huge career
numbers playing in the inclement weather of the AFC East versus defenses a heck of lot stronger than any currently
seen in the entire NFC conference other than that of the Chicago Bears.
Meanwhile, if you're thinking Daunte Culpepper, in his career
he hasn't played nearly as well outdoors as he has indoors. And that would be a real problem in Chicago...
For now the Bears continue to roll with Grossman.
