Buffalo Bills 2007 NFL Projection:
Half of the games the Bills play in 2007 will be versus teams that made the
playoffs in 2006, as follows...
That's an extremely tough slate of games for a team that finished 7-9 last season, and just lost
Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher, and Nate Clements from the defense, and Willis McGahee from the offense.
Not to mention the Bills were 0-7 versus teams that made it to the playoffs last year.
Throw in additional matchups at Pittsburgh, at Jacksonville, versus Denver, and versus Cincinnati (arguably four
more playoff caliber teams),
and it's not easy to get excited
about the Bills' prospects in 2007.
Buffalo's strength of schedule is reminiscent of
the extremely difficult schedule faced by the Bills of 2004 led by Drew Bledsoe,
a team which went (9-7) with two games blown by the defense on the
final drives (home to Jacksonville, and at the N.Y. Jets). That team really should have gone (11-5) and made the playoffs.
Instead, the 9-7 finish sent Bledsoe packing in favor of J.P. Losman...
So, do the Losman led Bills have any chance of
going 11-5, let alone 9-7 against this brutal of a schedule?
We don't see how.
Furthermore, how much better was Losman expected to be that Bledsoe in the first place?
The point is, the Bills dropped the ball when they let Bledsoe go.
And we think the Bills have dropped the ball yet again letting Willis McGahee go, as both players put up great numbers
in the ultra-defensively tough AFC East, which has for the most part been the strongest defensive division in
the NFL for a good portion of the last twelve or thirteen seasons... Overall, we see the Bills posting a (1-15) record
in 2007. It's hard to project many wins on this schedule.
