Baltimore Ravens 2010 NFL Projection:
"SWOT analysis" of the 2010 Ravens (including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) followed by the FootballLOCKS.com classic schedule analysis
and a record projection summary.
Strengths:
RB Ray Rice (rushing & receiving), offensive line run blocking (LT Michael Oher,
RT Jared Gaither, C Matt Birk) WR Anquan Boldin's toughness over
the middle, QB Joe Flacco's arm, run defense (DT Haloti Ngata, DT Kelly Gregg, ILB
Ray Lewis), pass defense (but secondary currently has several injuries),
kickoff coverage, kickoff returns, RB depth (Willis McGahee),
and coaching.
Weaknesses:
Injuries in secondary (Reed, Webb, Washington) but situation getting brighter.
Although CB Domonique Foxworth is out for the year. Field goals.
Opportunities:
TE Todd Heap could re-emerge in the passing game-- as defenses deal with
the triple threat of WR Boldin, WR Mason, and RB Rice.
OLB Terrell Suggs could reclaim some of his old pass rushing form.
Rookie OLB Sergio Kindle from Texas & rookie DT Terrence Cody from Alabama
could add potent depth to the front seven...
Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger will miss several games due to suspension including
Baltimore's trip to Pittsburgh in week 4.
Meanwhile WR Santonio Holmes left Pittsburgh and signed with the Jets.
And Holmes will miss the week 1 game versus Baltimore due to suspension--
which is especially fortunate considering Baltimore's banged up secondary.
Threats:
FS Ed Reed's pinched nerve in neck,
the return of S Troy Polamalu in Pittsburgh,
the Bengals' acquisition of WR Terrell Owens.
Schedule Analysis:
In 2010 Baltimore will play just 5 games versus playoff teams from a season ago;
Of course one shouldn't discount games versus division rival Pittsburgh-- or home
versus Miami in week 9-- or trips to Atlanta in week 10 and
to Houston in week 14.
But on the flip side the Ravens will face plenty of struggling teams including;
Cleveland twice, Denver, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, @Carolina (defense looks good but offense
anemic in preseason), and Tampa Bay... Furthermore, drawing the Saints at home in cold December
is a fortunate scheduling event.
Record Projection:
Overall we project the Ravens to go (13-3) in 2010.
The addition of Boldin could transform the offense into a unit that can
only be stopped by the best of defenses.
