"NFL Picks, Predictions,
  Point Spreads & Odds"

Power Rankings Archives - Most NFL power rankings bounce teams all over because they disregard strength of schedule, or over-emphasize the most recent game played; giving too much credit for a single blowout of a low ranked team, and not enough credit for a close loss to a high ranked team.

At FootballLOCKS.com we dubbed that {{unstable power ranking syndrome}}.

Historical NFL power ratings at FootballLOCKS.com payed close attention to strength of opponents played without over-crediting the last game played (that was too fresh on the mind of many writers); all in a quest to deliver you with a weekly NFL power ranking that reflected the power of each team, and not just their record. For a team to crack the top 10 in FootballLOCKS.com's NFL football rankings, they had to earn it with more than a single crushing of a bottom ranked squad-- as you'll discover when reading through the archives.

Rank

NFL Team

Record

Comments December 25, 2007

1/1

Patriots

15-0

New England became the first team in NFL history to own a record of (15-0). But how well are the Patriots playing? Consider that at home against the (1-13) Dolphins they were shut out in the second half while trying to break various records.

2/2

Colts

13-2

Just think how close the Colts are to being undefeated. They had a 10 point fourth quarter lead on the Patriots in week 9 before losing by 4 points. And there was that bizarre loss at San Diego in week 10 where Manning threw 6 interceptions and the Colts still could have won the game if Vinatieri could have connected on a 29-yard field goal... We're talking two or three plays away from perfection.

3/3

Cowboys

13-2

Dallas clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs thanks to winning in Carolina while the Packers lost in Chicago... The victory was Dallas' 13th of the season (a mark they probably would have reached two seasons ago if they had a kicker like Folk). Unfortunately for Dallas, Owens suffered a high ankle sprain. Thankfully there should be time to heal thanks to their first-round bye.

4/5

Jaguars

11-4

The Jaguars locked up a wild card spot by crushing the Raiders. With victories this season over the Steelers, Titans, Buccaneers, and Chargers these Jags should be a confident bunch come playoff time. And remember, two of Jacksonville's four losses were to the Colts. What would Jacksonville's record be if they didn't have to play the Colts twice?

5/4

Packers

12-3

The Packers' blowout loss in Chicago ended their quest for the top seed. It has been a great year for Green Bay with wins over the Giants, Chargers, Redskins, and a sweep of the Vikings. But two losses to the Bears let the Jaguars move on up in the rankings.

6/6

Chargers

10-5

Remember when San Diego was (1-2) then (1-3) and all those "other" power rankings were pushing the panic button on them? San Diego took care of business against Denver on Monday night, and can clinch the 3 seed by beating the Raiders in week 17.

7/7

Steelers

10-5

Willie Parker was lost for the season in St. Louis. The Steelers' running game still looked solid in his absence. Pittsburgh is alive for the 3 seed. However, they'll need a lot of help from Oakland.

8/8

Giants

10-5

Jacobs and Bradshaw each rushed for over 140 yards as the Giants used 21 fourth quarter points to win at Buffalo and clinch a playoff spot. The Giants will play at Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round.

9/10

Seahawks

10-5

Seattle crushed Baltimore and locked up the #3 seed in the NFC.

10/11

Buccaneers

9-6

Tampa Bay is the 4 seed and will play the Giants in the Wild Card round.

11/12

Titans

9-6

The Titans beat the Jets at home and are now back in control of their own playoff destiny thanks to the Bengals beating the Browns.

12/15

Redskins

8-7

Remember when the Redskins were (6-7) but the FootballLOCKS.com weekly standing projections still had them projected to make the playoffs? Washington took another step toward the postseason with a blowout win at Minnesota.

13/16

Eagles

7-8

The Eagles grabbed another quality win, this time beating the hot Saints in New Orleans. Bottom line; Philly had a brutal schedule in 2007.

14/9

Browns

9-6

The Browns lost control over their playoff destiny by losing in Cincinnati.

15/13

Vikings

8-7

The Vikings' playoff chances took a hit in a home loss to the Redskins on Sunday night. However, Minnesota can still qualify for the postseason... In all likelihood the Vikings would already have a playoff spot locked up if they could have/would have signed an experienced quarterback who can play now.

16/14

Bills

7-8

Without much to play for the Bills caved to the Giants in the fourth quarter and fell below the .500 mark.

17/17

Texans

7-8

The Texans played some great football in 2007, but having to play 4 games combined against the Colts and Jaguars is a playoff killer.

18/18

Saints

7-8

Lost by 15 points at home to Philadelphia, but are still barely alive for a playoff spot.

19/19

Cardinals

7-8

The Cardinals had some impressive wins this season including versus Pittsburgh and Seattle. But two losses to San Francisco wrecked Arizona's playoff plans.

20/20

Lions

7-8

Detroit got back to one game below .500 with a home win over the Chiefs. Too little too late to make the playoffs after starting (6-2)... Remember when we warned about the hard road to the playoffs back in week 9?

21/21

Bears

6-9

Chicago looked more like the team headed to the playoffs beating the Packers at home to earn a sweep. Unfortunately for the Bears, the two wins against Green Bay this season were doubly offset by two losses to the Lions and two losses to the Vikings.

22/22

Broncos

6-9

Denver couldn't get anything going in San Diego and fell to 3 games below .500.

23/23

Panthers

6-9

The Panthers' postseason hopes came to an end in a home loss to Dallas.

24/26

Bengals

6-9

Cincinnati knocked off the Browns to grab their fifth home win of the season. Unfortunately, the Bengals are just (1-6) on the road.

25/25

Chiefs

4-11

The Chiefs lost their 8th game in a row, falling at Detroit despite gaining 171 more yards than the Lions.

26/24

Raiders

4-11

Oakland was blown away in Jacksonville and JaMarcus Russell threw 3 interceptions while completing less than 1/3 of his passes.

27/29

49ers

5-10

Hill threw 3 TD's and the 49ers won at home against Tampa Bay despite being out-yarded more than 2 to 1. Then again the Buccaneers pulled several starters in the second half.

28/28

Jets

3-12

The Jets hung tough in Tennessee but lost and now sit at 9 games below .500.

29/27

Ravens

4-11

Troy Smith made his first start and the Ravens fell at Seattle by 3 scores... Back in week 6 the Ravens were (4-2), now they're (4-11). Yikes!

30/30

Rams

3-12

The Rams couldn't stop Pittsburgh's offense and it resulted in their 12th loss of the season.

31/31

Falcons

3-12

Redman, White, and Robinson had solid numbers but the Falcons fell in overtime at Arizona, and are now 9 games below .500.

32/32

Dolphins

1-14

The Dolphins were handed their 14th loss of the season. But Miami shutout New England in the second half. Not too shabby.
